Job Abstract

Acting as a contingent IT professional, this position is responsible for maintaining and updating the Detention Center’s website, the Scala broadcasts, Vicon, Sallyport, LAN, WAN, and other related technical projects and assignments. This position may also train and assist Correctional staff for routine/day-to-day technical needs, including the installation of hardware and software, providing customer service, and working with outside vendors or other Howard County departments on IT related needs. This position will be assigned to work 30 hours per week.

• Maintains and updates the Detention Center's website.
• Diagnoses, resolves, and documents hardware/software issues. Runs diagnostic programs and updates to resolve problems. Resolves technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and other systems. Runs reports to determine malfunctions that continue to occur.
• Updates and manages the Detention Center's Scala broadcasts.
• Supports and troubleshoots the Detention Centers camera system (Vicon).
• Assists in technical projects.
• Creates user accounts and updates Sallyport.
• Maintains printer supplies. Cleans, adjusts, and maintains the printing machines and scanners, replacing such parts as are required to keep the unit within the manufacturer's operating specifications.
• Creates and maintains documentation for changes to technology used at the facility.
• Answers the telephone and handles email and walk-up requests. Responds to queries, either in person or over the phone.
• Responds to email messages for customers seeking help, to include duties such as asking questions to determine nature of problem and walking customer through problem-solving process. Follows up with customers to ensure issue has been resolved. Gains feedback from customers about computer usage.
• Trains and assists Correctional staff for day-to-day technical needs. Trains computer users where required. Provides technical assistance and support for incoming queries and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware.
• Works with DTCS and Vendors to support Corrections web based products. Troubleshoots basic Internet networking issues.
• Maintains daily performance of computer systems. Installs, modifies, and repairs computer hardware and software. Installs computer peripherals for users.
• Other related duties as may be assigned.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Any of the below qualifications are preferred but not required:

• A+ certification or higher, or
• 6 months experience in IT, or
• Some college IT classes
