Peraton is seeking a Technical Project Manager in support of our premier customer, NASA, Exploration and Space Communications (ESC) Division, based in Greenbelt, MD. This is primarily an on-site position at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). Infrequent remote work may be arranged with supervisor.
As prime contractor on the NASA Space Exploration Networks Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, Peraton is responsible for the development, operation, maintenance, sustainment, and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks. You will be an integral part of a world class team that builds and ensures NASA’s space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements.
As a Technical Manager you will have the opportunity to work with NASA’s Space Relay (SR) fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS). The SR is a unique and highly sought-after capability that uses geostationary relay satellites to communicate with low earth orbiting satellites and other customer platforms. The SR is the primary communications capability for the Space Station, Hubble Space Telescope and numerous other NASA, U.S. government and commercial missions.
In this position, you will support the ACCESS Project Special Projects and Missions (SPM) Network Director (ND) by phasing in as a Deputy Task Lead to mirror the existing Task Lead through a transition phase of less than a year, after which time you will take over as the Task Lead. The task order entails leading a team of Mission Commitment Engineers (MCEs) to help NASA’s SPM customers fulfill mission objectives. MCEs support all phases of the mission life cycle: from initial exploratory compatibility discussions, through the technical aspects of designing, implementing, and testing ground and space interfaces, to procedural aspects for scheduling and controlling operational service.
Task lead responsibilities that you will phase into include the following aspects:
- Supervise a half dozen direct reports to include mentoring, career guidance and annual performance appraisals
- Manage team execution to achieve financial, delivery, and contractual performance targets for assigned projects/programs
- Generate annual Task Order Implementation Plans including staffing levels, and material and travel requirements
- Support the SPM ND in establishing and maintaining interagency agreements and managing reimbursable budgets
- Maintain status reports including biweekly report for SPM ND task meetings, monthly contractual status charts and biannual self-evaluations
- Work with the assigned program security officer (PSO) to oversee an on-site SCIF and to maintain accreditation and COMSEC programs
- Work with individual MCEs to develop design, implementation, and test approaches for implementing customer-unique requirements at the SR ground terminals
- Participate in requirement’s, design, test and operations readiness reviews and provide guidance to ensure designs and operations concepts are consistent with SR support policies and constraints
- Conduct CCB reviews of mission documentation including requirements, operations procedures, and technical interface control documents
- Support the SPM ND is generating status and decision briefings for senior management and customer monthly status reviews
- Support the SPM ND in commissioning annual loading studies and generating constellation management plans
- Occasionally travel to NASA and customer sites for project-related activities
