Position description
Postdoctoral Researchers in the Peng Lab at UCLA
The Peng Lab at the University of California, Los Angeles is seeking dedicated Postdoctoral Fellows with a background in data science and bioinformatics to help us gain a broader understanding of the neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration through computational analyses. The role involves the application of state-of-the-art bioinformatic methods, machine learning, and AI techniques to high-dimensional data to perform integrative and exploratory analysis. In return, we offer a robust environment for learning advanced genetic technology, viral manipulation, molecular biology, and behavioral analyses needed to study the molecular principles of visual function and disease. For more details, see www.yirongpeng.com. We are committed to the academic growth and success of postdoctoral fellows and are looking for highly motivated applicants to join our vibrant team.
Responsibilities:
Lead projects on developing novel analyses to study the development and degeneration of the visual system
Acquire, process, integrate, and standardize large datasets and build databases
Perform integrative and exploratory analyses of multi-omics datasets and apply machine learning methods to decipher the underlying principles
Selection criteria
Ph.D. in computer science, data science, computational biology, systems biology/immunology, bioinformatics, or other related fields
Strong track record of productivity, as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Considerable experience in data analysis and handling ‘omics’ datasets – genomics transcriptomics, proteomics– evidenced by a portfolio including R scripts, published R packages, or contributions to open-source software projects
Proficient use of the R language, alongside machine learning and AI, with extensive experience in data analysis
In-depth knowledge and skills in using Linux, Git, Docker, PHP, MySQL, etc.
Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to collaborate easily
Background knowledge in Biology or Neuroscience

As an anonymous user, you have probably discovered how easy our system is to use. However, you have just scratched the surface of what we can offer.
We encourage you to Register so you can use our most powerful features: searching with multiple terms, setting up multiple locations, establishing favorite companies, and accessing your search history. If you find a job you like, you can apply directly for it, and then, keep notes on it. We will also keep a lookout for jobs that match your search terms and email you when we find something you may like.
You can register for free and the system is free to use. If you like our system so far, click on Register and unlock the power required by serious job searchers.
Any time you conduct a search, the system shows you job matches, ranked by their Relevance Score (RS).
The score is calculated by a proprietary algorithm that uses Intelligent Machine Learning.
The Relevance Score tells you how well the job opportunity matches your search term or terms.
When not logged in, the system is limited to one search term. Scores for single term matches are usually lower.
When you register, log in, and set up multiple terms prioritized by importance, the jobs found for you will receive a much higher Relevance Score.
