All patient support team members act to meet the standard cleaning of operation rooms for between cases and terminal cleaning. The Operating Room Support Assistant has the ability to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of aseptic techniques and universal precautions and the ability to apply them in all phases of Operating Room cleaning. Turn over the Operating Room suites as needed by removing all contaminated materials and properly disinfecting all appropriate surfaces. Perform all assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner. Team members must possess an understanding of a collaborative and communicative team approach in the performance of their duties.
Under the immediate supervision of the Lead Operating Room Support Assistant, Sr. Custodian Supervisor, and Manager, the candidate performs the following duties:
80%: GENERAL CLEANING:
Follow all Infection Control Policies and Procedures in maintaining a clean, sanitized, and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. Perform cleaning in all areas of the operating room, including but not limited to OR suites, sub-sterile rooms, storage and utility rooms, ancillary areas, etc. Disinfect approved equipment prior to and after each use when & where applicable. Follow all departmental procedures to ensure cleaning tool and equipment are maintained appropriately. Perform daily cleaning of the Operating Room between cases and end of the day “terminal cleaning”. Scrub the floor per established weekly schedule to meet AORN recommendations. Ensure adequate levels of cleaning supplies are maintained- i.e: soap, hand sanitizer, towels, mops, etc.
15%: COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF WASTE AND SOILED LINEN:
Follow all Infection Control Policies and Procedures pertaining to the removal of waste and soiled linen. Collect, transport, and dispose of waste and soiled linen to the designated location utilizing appropriate carts and equipment.
5%: OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Attend all team meetings as required. Follow all safety protocols, and report all safety hazards to the immediately Lead ORSA or Supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned.

- Prior Housekeeping / EVS - Patient Support Assistant experience in a healthcare setting
- Janitorial or Custodial License / Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description.
