Position Description
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 36 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by 5,000 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $1 billion. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,752 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties.
ABOUT THE POSITION The Legal Analyst responds to complex and technical correspondence, inquiries, complaints and requests made on behalf of the public, state agencies, and justice partners to protect the Court from legal liability. Incumbents are expected to have an excellent understanding of legal procedures and terminology, working knowledge of online legal research platforms, and strong legal research skills. Incumbents must be able to draft correspondence and a variety of legal documents for internal and external stakeholders and must ensure that work product meets legal requirements. Incumbents must have excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills, and are expected to act with a large degree of independence in support of multiple attorneys to complete time-sensitive and confidential work.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, you must meet the following selection requirements at the time of application:
Option I: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience supporting multiple attorneys, including interacting with clients; writing and editing legal documents and correspondence; and conducting legal research.
-OR-
Option II: Graduation with a Juris Doctor degree.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
EDUCATION VERIFICATION: To receive credit, a legible copy of your law school diploma -OR- transcript(s) (unofficial copies are acceptable) detailing the degree conferred and the name of the educational institution must be attached to your online application. EXAMINATION INFORMATION: Part I: Qualifying evaluation of education, training and experience based upon submitted application materials and supplemental questionnaire.
Part II: Applicants who best meet job-related qualifications will be invited to participate in the online assessment covering competencies including, but not limited to, including professional potential, achievement, deductive reasoning, willingness to learn, maintains good working relationships, analyzes information, learns quickly, generates new ideas, uses time efficiently, and computer literacy.
Part III: Interview stage in which applicants who successfully complete the online assessment will be tasked with a practical project to showcase their abilities.
