Performs skilled journey-level grounds construction and maintenance work; operates a variety of vehicles and truck-mounted, attached, towed, and light motorized equipment.
Required
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
Two (2) years of progressively more responsible experience in grounds maintenance, one (1) year of shall have been at the apprentice II or equivalent level.
Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
May be required to operate a commercial motor vehicle, as defined below, and possess a Commercial Driver's License CDL-A.
"Commercial Motor Vehicle" is defined as a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles used in commerce to transport passengers or property if the motor vehicle has any of the following:
A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds inclusive of a towed unit with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds.
A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds.
Is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
Is of any size and is used in the transportation of hazardous materials requiring placards.
May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
Knowledge of the methods and skills in the use of equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for grounds maintenance on a variety of surfaces and terrains.
Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
Knowledge of local, state, and national codes.
Ability to perform mechanical minor repairs on heavy tools and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
Capability to estimate time and material needs and to perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.
Preferred
Completion of an acceptable apprentice-level landscape, hardscape, or public works training program.
