The ELA Instructional Coach leads the development and improvement for K-4 teachers via training, informal, non-evaluative observations, model lessons, feedback conversations, data analysis, and more. The Literacy Coach serves as the literacy content expert and provides support on curriculum, high-quality interactions, and the best practices for TC’s Readers and Writers Workshop.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Support grade-specific content areas, while adhering to grant requirements.
Support staff with topics such as student engagement, higher-level thinking and questioning, and rigorous instruction.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with teacher cohorts.
Work with building and district administrators and applicable school-based committees to assist in accomplishing goals, objectives, and create activities.
Attend applicable professional conferences and workshops and turn-key information.
Guide teachers in leading effective data-driven conversations with students and peers.
Assist teachers and administrators with organizing, analyzing, and drawing actionable conclusions based on formative assessment data and classroom visits.
Collaborate with teachers to implement the plan, teach, debrief model to refine best practices.
Conduct classroom visits in a non-evaluative supporting structure, providing feedback on lessons and model lessons.
Attend consultant training, grade-level meetings, building meetings, and coaching professional development.
Utilize current district data (LinkIt, F&P, common assessments) to drive instructional needs.
Assures cohesion in between consultant visitations.
Work with the leadership team in the creation of the school’s professional development plan with specific, measurable, and attainable benchmarks for teacher and student performance.
Identify, design, and implement additional professional development during in-service days.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the assigned supervisor.
Term: 10-month position
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 highly effective years of experience as a certified ELA teacher or Coach
Proven results when working with struggling readers and writers
Strong knowledge of how children learn to read and write
Knowledge and experience working with the Readers and Writers Workshop model
Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred; not required
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Knowledge of grade-level standards
Ability to disaggregate, interpret, and analyze assessment data
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
