Plant Operator Roles and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Plant Operations Tech at Luling, LA.
This position will support our Hydrogen Production facility located in Luling, LA and will also have operational support responsibilities for two other smaller hydrogen satellite plants within the region.. The Luling plant is a steam methane reformer that produces hydrogen and high pressure steam. The product from this facility is exported and distributed to various customers via a pipeline along the Mississippi River corridor. Additionally, the Luling site also maintains and has operational responsibilities for an on-site off gas hydrogen plant which is segregated from the base plant. The Operations Technician will be responsible for safely operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the equipment associated with all these facilities.
As a Plant Operator, you will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the steam methane reformer process and its associated equipment (e.g. utility systems, compressors, rotating equipment, and DCS operation). You will be expected to perform daily operational tasks, and preventative maintenance as required.
The basic function of this role is to provide the necessary technical and hands-on support to continuously improve plant operation, maintenance, mechanical equipment integrity, reliability, cost, and on-stream factor. The Operations Technician position will be required to work a rotating shift schedule, which includes weekends on a rotational basis.

Required Skills / Abilities:
Participate in the basic safety process as a key contributor to the site’s overall safety performance.
Provide day-to-day operation of the plant to support the plant on-stream, production and reliability targets.
Must be self-motivated to learn in a fast-paced environment and progress to the control board operator within one year
Provide hands on support as required to resolve Instrument/Electrical/Mechanical/Operational field problems as they occur.
Interact with staff personnel to maintain operation of plant; assist in plant equipment mechanical repairs, instrument calibrations and electrical troubleshooting.
Investigate equipment failures, determine root cause of failure, and recommend appropriate solutions to reduce reoccurrence of/or eliminate cause of failure.
Assist in the development, implementation, and periodic review of preventative/predictive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned shutdowns and improve overall plant on-stream capability.
Maintain an error-free execution. Pay attention to details and execute work to the highest standard. Apply a Continuous Improvement philosophy to work.
Participate and provide technical support in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns.
Provide troubleshooting expertise for the production units.
Follow Operating procedures.
Support other facilities in the area as required.
This role is a Safety Sensitive Position.
Education and Licensing Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED
Two year Associate Degree in process technology or a related technical field is preferred and/or five years of operations experience in a petrochemical or manufacturing environment.
Candidates with a background in pumps, mechanical seals, vessels, exchangers, gear drives, compressors, rotating equipment, and/or Electrical/Instrumentation knowledge is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Be able to meet call-in requirements as needed.
• Elevated work required.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
Technical School Graduates:
Students with a background in Industrial Systems, Machine Tool Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive Technology, HVAC, Process Technology, Electrical Technology, Instrumentation Technology are encouraged to apply.
Work Hours & Benefits:
- Must be willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts and weekends and take 24 hour on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
- Must be a self-starter and willing to work alone on nights, weekends, and holidays.
