Job Description Summary
Tutors passionate about learning and helping others work towards facilitating understanding of key concepts, relationships, and applications in one-on-one or small group settings. Assistance with study strategies and approaches to learning and test-taking is expected. Working with students’ learning styles is encouraged, as well as assisting with critical thinking, problem-solving, meta-cognition, and clinical reasoning to the degree possible.
Responsibilities
Commit to the weekly tutoring schedule agreed upon between the tutor and TLC staff
Tutoring hours are Monday-Thursday from 10 am -7 pm.
Tutor shifts are are scheduled for a minimum of two hours.
Complete all assigned training activities
Promote the TLC
Establish a friendly, encouraging, and welcoming environment for students
Maintain a quiet workspace conducive to learning
Adhere to all TLC and university policies and procedures
Attend orientation and other meetings and trainings as scheduled
Complete all assignments/documentation required by TLC and Payroll in a timely manner
Up-to-date knowledge of tutored course(s)
Tutor a diverse population of students with a variety of learning styles
Required Qualifications
• Faculty recommendation required to verify subject matter knowledge- A or A- in the course to be tutored. The recommendation form can be found here: https://www.chapman.edu/students/academic-resources/tutoring-center/tutoring/recommendation-form.aspx
3.0 or better overall GPA
Desired Qualifications
Experience tutoring a diverse population of students with a variety of learning styles
Ability to tutor multiple subjects and/or multiple levels of a subject matter (e.g., MATH 100-111 & SPAN 102)
Previous tutoring experience
