Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks a Space Systems Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, California to design and develop state-of-the-art satellite systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil, and national security programs. As system engineers we apply industry standard products, processes, and tools across subsystems in pursuit of programmatic objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
- Work across subsystems to apply industry standard products, processes, and tools.
- Identify and resolve cross-functional technical issues.
- Identify unassigned work and properly distribute it.
- Participate in system and segment level trades.
- Ensure contractual compliance by integrating the statement of work (SOW) and technical specification into the IPT workflow.
- Create requirements and model-based system engineering infrastructures (e.g., DOORS, CAMEO). Allocate performance and functional requirements and ensure flow down.
- Forecast and track requirement compliance activities to verify compliance and satisfy reporting obligations with the customer.
- Respond to Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) from the customer.
- Plan and manage space system engineering events (e.g., Segment Requirement Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews) and apply Boeing command media to ensure they satisfy all entrance and exit criteria.
- Represent space system engineering in events led by other IPTs (e.g., Manufacturing and Test Readiness Reviews).
- Support program life cycle including Assemble, Integration, and Test (AI&T) IPT as either a test engineer or in an oversight role to help track and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). This may also include performing a similar role at the Launch Site or in the Mission Operations.
In order to meet security standards and protocols, all work is performed onsite in El Segundo, CA.
This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering (i.e. system or software requirements, development, or test).
- 3+ years of experience leading a team of System Engineers or Analysts.
- Experience in satellite system design, development, or test.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience with space segment hardware development.
- Electrical or aerospace engineering skills.
- Experience interfacing with customers and program office and across interdisciplinary teams.

Lead (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Lead (Level 5): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience).
