The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Chief Crew Supervisor, grade G25, in the Office of Storm Drain Maintenance.
About the Position
This is supervisory work involving the planning, coordination and scheduling of lower-level supervised crews of unskilled/semi-skilled Laborers, Equipment Operators, trades people and administrative support staff engaged in specialized activities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief, Storm Drainage Maintenance Division.
About the Agency
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.
Examples of Work
Responsible for supervising in house field operations in the Office of Storm Drain Maintenance, including distributing work to Crew Supervisors, Masonry Mechanics, Equipment Operators, Trades Helpers, and Laborers assigned to the Division.
Supervises daily in house construction operations of the Office of Storm Drain Maintenance
Coordinate the work of all staff assigned to the office and check completed assignments for accuracy.
Conduct interviews with candidates for roles within the assigned office.
Review timecards daily along with approving time off requests and biweekly approvals.
Ensure all subordinate staff follows County guidelines as it relates to reporting to work and maintaining a positive leave balance.
Evaluate Service Request workload, creates schedules, assigns work, and develops new procedures to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
Evaluates operations to maintain quality standards and ensure optimal utilization of personnel resources.
Performs administrative functions, such as drafting memos, briefing memos, presentations.
Resolves and assist crew supervisors and employees resolve problems and disputes, fosters a harmonious work environment.
Develops objectives and key results as well as tracking key performance metrics to guide management in resources needs.
Allocates resources to the crews and work assignments, including personnel, equipment needs, materials, and supplies, to improve operations productivity and efficiency.
Assists in creating a fiscal year budget plan, makes financial forecasts, and tracks budget spending for construction and overtime expenditures.
Prepare and submit reports on daily operations, equipment usage, and employee resources used.
Review and complete assigned service requests, making necessary corrections, and recording information and service performed.
Create monthly reports on key performance indicators.
Procure necessary equipment, materials, and supplies in sufficient time to allow crews to depart from the yard to the work site each day.
Collaborate with other agencies and government officials on maintenance related activities.
Train assigned personnel to ensure career progression and team productivity.
Ensures that construction projects are completed on time and to the required quality standards.
Ensures that all construction work is carried out in accordance with As Built Plans and specifications.
Ensures that construction sites are safe and that all necessary safety precautions are taken.
Conducts regular inspections of construction sites to ensure that work is being carried out in accordance with plans and specifications.
Coordinates with other departments and agencies to ensure that construction work does not interfere with other activities in the area.
Monitors construction progress and takes corrective action when necessary to ensure that work is completed on schedule.
Prepares and maintains records of construction activities, including progress reports, cost reports, and other documentation.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures for the Office of Storm Drain Maintenance.
Works collaboratively with other departments and agencies to ensure that construction projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Works collaboratively with Risk Safety Officers to develop Safety Training Plan.
Provides technical guidance and support to Crew Supervisors, Masonry Mechanics, Equipment Operators, Trades Helpers, and Laborers assigned to the Division
Works closely with the procurement department to ensure that all necessary materials and equipment are available for construction projects
Ensures that all necessary permits and approvals are obtained for construction projects.
Works closely with the public to address any concerns or complaints regarding construction activities.
During inclement weather/emergency conditions operations, including flood control emergency field operations, continuously monitor plowing/salting operations to ensure equipment usage and road coverage
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent GED, and
Five (5) years of experience in either road, bridge or supplemental labor activities, two (2) of which must have involved supervision of a large number of crews involved in road/bridge/supplemental labor activities.
