Manage employees and team performance; provide new employee orientation; train or provide adequate training for employees; coach, counsel and motivate employees; evaluate employees; investigate complaints or performance concerns; implement disciplinary action as needed and in consultation with appointment authority and Human Resources. Observe condition relevant to fire safety and accident prevention. Investigate all thefts and obtains information required to fill out necessary reports. Makes out a Security Department Report. If necessary, enters incident in the Incident log. Consult with and keep supervisor(s) informed of activities, needs and problems on assigned shift. Assume responsibility of assistant when Director &/or Assistant Director is absent. Supervise, schedule and monitor security activities in assigned areas to ensure and secure safe conditions for employees, patients, visitors, and to protect hospital building assets and premises: inspect work performance/assignments, and recommend improvements in work methods. Assist in implementing in-service education programs for staff. When mandated in-service programs are given, assist in the scheduling of officers to attend. Maintain professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, workshops, professional affiliations, etc. Conduct investigations; maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security. Review and incident reports submitted by subordinates for completeness and accuracy. Once you have read the incident, you need to initial Make sure all spaces are filled in, even if not applicable by using (N/A). Enforce the writing of an incident that occurred during you tour, to be written before the officer goes off his/her tour of duty. Collaborate with local, State and National agencies relative to hospital security investigations, direct and/or escort agency personnel to hospital building, and premises as required. Maintain established hospital and department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, and a safe environment as needed. Care for and maintain supplies and departmental equipment. Requisitions supplies, and equipment as needed (or inform your supervisor of the supplies needed). Attend meetings as required. You may be required to represent the security department at certain meetings. Always give a briefing to the Director &/or his designee, if this should occur. Provide leadership and manage the unit/program/department; make decisions; solve problems; develop unit procedures; develop records/files; conduct meetings; represent unit/department/program at internal and external meetings; Manage the employee hiring process; develop or update job descriptions; develop performance expectations, identify essential functions and knowledge, skills and abilities required; respond to questions pertaining to the need for background checks; assign work shifts; complete position requisition forms; form selection committees, if applicable, and ensure compliance with university processes for interview and selection of employees. Operating a hospital vehicle to pick up financial documents at off site locations. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Experience: Minimum five (5) years of security experience. Prior experience in a supervisory role preferred. Prior law enforcement preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Good interpersonal skills. Ability to lead others. Capable of scheduling work, follow-up on policies. Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. Licenses, Certifications: Possess a valid/current NYS Armed Guard License. Possess a valid/current NYC Unrestricted Concealed Carry Handgun License.
