Department Summary:
This is an opportunity for a creative Operations Research Analyst to join MITRE’s Operations Research department. We are large group of over 60 operations research professionals, including nearly 30 PhDs, who provide thought leadership on a variety of strategic and technical issues, perform analysis that enable our sponsors to make more effective decisions, lead internal research and development activities to bring new technical capabilities into the public sector, and serve as trusted third-party advisors to government sponsors on a variety of technical topics.
In short, we apply our problem-solving skills to complex interdisciplinary problems that occur within or at the intersection of organizations, operations, and technology. We support sponsor projects across the defense and public sectors including military logistics, radio-spectrum frequency management, health care delivery, cybersecurity analytics, fraud detection, satellite planning, homeland security and civilian aviation. We apply advanced analytic techniques such as longitudinal analysis, large-scale integer programming, metaheuristics, agent-based modeling, reinforcement learning, predictive modeling, mathematical modeling, forecasting, machine learning, optimization, statistics, probability modeling, Bayesian analysis, and different types of simulation to solve the nation’s toughest problems. And our research pushes the boundaries on topics such as complex scheduling, medical image analysis, and identifying changes in data streams.
Job Description:
Chief Engineer: Senior competency lead for Operations Research (OR). Serves as the focal point for the department technical work and research programs and assists the Division Chief Engineer and Technical Integrator. Monitors and encourages department participation in research. Department champion for technical quality. Establishes and runs the department quality control and assurance programs.
- Serve as a focal point for the department technical work and research programs and assist the Division Chief Engineer and Technical Integrator
- Thought leader in the skills of OR ( optimization, mathematical modeling, probability modeling, process modeling, constructive simulation, statistics and data analysis, metrics definition, design of experiments, and risk analysis) and their application to organization and operations analysis, operation decision support, process reengineering, test and evaluation, experimentation, end-to-end resource allocation, risk analysis, analysis of alternatives, and decision analysis.
- Execute department quality control and assurance programs
- Assist staff in professional development
- Lead department capability development initiatives and vision for shaping department capability areas
- Contribute to the technical work program
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., operation research, statistics, mathematics, engineering, physics,…)
- Six or more years of experience working with/for agencies and/or departments of the US Government (e.g., FAA, DoD, DoE, DHS, Treasury, IRS)
- Elligible to receive a TS clearance and suitability and fitness to work on IRS or DHS projects
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten or more years of experience working with/for agencies and/or departments of the US Government (e.g., FAA, DoD, DoE, DHS, Treasury, IRS)
- Principal investigator (PI) or Co-PI in one or more current or past MIP projects
- Five or more years of management experience as a group leader or project leader
- PhD degree in Operations Research or relevant technical discipline
- TS security clearance or suitability
