Assist the Vice Chancellor/ Vice President in developing, implementing and executing department goals, and serve as the primary representative for the University's healthcare priorities.
Represents the needs and goals of UHS at the Local, State and Federal levels with a focus on healthcare education and delivery by institutions of higher education.
Maintains frequent communications with elected officials, appointed officials, and their staff.
Partners with other healthcare systems that includes providers, insurers and industry stakeholders and maintains relationships with relevant associations and professional groups.
Identifies, reviews, analyzes and interprets healthcare legislation that will impact UHS and its institutions. Assists in coordination of governmental relations activities to achieve department goals.
Works with university and system committees and councils to develop, coordinate, and execute the department's legislative agenda regarding healthcare education and delivery in higher education.
Represents the UHS mission of improving healthcare delivery and education through communications with local, state and federal officials and agencies.
Represents the priorities and goals of UHS to state agencies (eg., Coordinating Board, Legislative Budget Board, and Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Texas Department of State Health Services).
Serves as liaison between campuses and elected officials.
Communicates with various university leadership, faculty groups, alumni groups, student organizations, and health industry associations.
Develops, implements and evaluates legislative strategies related to UHS priorities in healthcare delivery and health education. Monitors various policy sources to research, monitor, analyze, and respond to federal, state, and local policies affecting UHS, provides recommendations to senior leadership on significant state and federal issues. Maintains open communications with other state universities and systems. Researches and identifies outside funding for projects that are important to UHS.

Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge.
