Job Summary
Harmony Union School District is located on a breathtaking 56-acre campus, nestled in a beautiful valley bounded with redwoods and bay laurel just south of Occidental, CA. Our campus includes maintained hiking trails, a year-round creek and waterfall, and modern expansive facilities. We are a small school community that is known for environmental education and Place-Based Learning. We are also a unique campus with a farm to table cafeteria, including an amazing 5-acre garden. HUSD is in search of an Assistant CBO to provide overall support to the CBO regarding district fiscal tasks, who also serves as a liaison with sites and staff regarding fiscal issues, and overseeing and managing various District-wide programs related to insurance and budgets.
Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional college level course work in accounting, finance, payroll or related subject is desirable;
• Three (3) years of accounting experience is preferred with experience in school finance;
• Experience with the ESCAPE Online financial system is desired;
• Experience with Aeries (student information and attendance system), State data management and reporting systems (CALPADS & PADC);
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.

DESIRED:
An individual who is looking for a very versatile and challenging yet fulfilling and meaningful position. Everyday has the potential to be different. The tasks required will differ from managing accounts payable and receivable, to state programs, to student enrollment, to assisting staff, to fiscal and daily operational support to the food service program, to even occasionally supervising students on lunch-break. This position “wears many hats”. It would be ideal if the candidate has knowledge and experience in school finance and programs (Aeries, Escape, CALPADS, CNIPS), has a strong sense of humor, is flexible, knows how to prioritize, is self-sufficient and likes to work hard. This candidate will work very closely with the CBO and Office Manager. Work calendar is a full 260-day contract, including 3-4 weeks of paid vacation.
KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Principles, practices and procedures of accounting including budget development, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable;
• Modern office practices, procedures and equipment;
• Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws;
• Record-keeping techniques;
• Operation of a computer and assigned software;
• Oral and written communication skills;
• Interpersonal skills including tact, patience, courtesy and above all, humor.
ABILITY TO:
• Perform all aspects of the position;
• Prepare clear and comprehensive financial statements and reports;
• Accurately check, verify and analyze a variety of accounting data;
• Effectively communicate in both oral and written form;
• Work cooperatively with others and to follow oral and written directions;
• Meet schedules and timelines;
• Appropriately maintain the confidentiality of payroll, human resources and student information.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS (REQUIRED)
• Valid/current California Driver’s License;
