About This Role:
The Custodian position performs routine janitorial, custodial, and housekeeping functions for the care and cleanliness of all County buildings and facilities involving semi-skilled custodial and heavy manual labor.
Daily duties will consist of cleaning and disinfecting floors, windows, sinks, counters, shower areas, toilets, water fountains and other fixtures and performing related activities like sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, waxing floors, carpet shampooing; window washing (to include using necessary equipment for these tasks); trash and recycling removal; replenishing soap and paper supplies; moving and setting-up of furniture; loading and unloading of supply materials. In addition, this position is responsible for cleanliness of County walkways, entrances, and grounds to include litter removal, treating walkways for inclement winter weather and shoveling snow from walkways. Ability to read and write is of the utmost importance, as custodial work includes a number of safety procedures that must be followed for the protection of the custodian, other County employees and the public.
Some knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, chemicals, and equipment; some knowledge of safety and effective use of chemicals; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others. In addition, having the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, communicate clearly (in writing and orally) with building customers, colleagues, and supervision, and being proactive in solving customer issues would also demonstrate good experience. Candidate may need to assist with after-hours meetings, so flexibility is important.
Minimum Requirements:
8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience.
Preferences:
A. Knowledge of basic principles of industrial cleaning methods and supplies. Experience with floor maintenance techniques, to include equipment used in process. (Floor scrubbers and buffers as well as extraction machines)
B. Practical experience using a chemical dispensing system
C. Good knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
Special Requirements:
- Must pass a pre-employment physical exam.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Background Checks which may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Check, Credit History Check, Education Verification Check, License Verification Check, and/or Finger printing.
Work Schedule:
37.5 hours – be 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM., Monday through Friday.
Starting Salary Range:
$17.55 to $27.43 per hour
