East Stroudsburg University is hiring a PC Laboratory and Network Technician! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the PC Laboratory and Network Technician, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting ESU’s computer laboratories and network infrastructure. You will be an active member of the computing and communication services team and will work closely with the Director to ensure that all computer equipment, software, and network systems are functioning correctly to support all campus community members research and activities. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your computer science background and technical experience with pc/network support, all while serving as a first point of contact for IT-related inquiries delivering timely and effective solutions to customers. To be successful in this role the applicant must possess experience with various software applications, a strong working knowledge of network protocols and troubleshooting, along with excellent communication skills. Furthermore, the role requires the candidate to have proven problem solving and organizational skills.
Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true PC Laboratory and Network Technician. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.
What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Provide technical support for hardware and software issues in computer labs,including troubleshooting PCs, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
- Deliver first-level technical support to users via phone,email, and in-person, addressing hardware, software, and network-relatedissues.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with PCs, laptops, printers, mobiledevices, and other peripherals, as well as software applications and networkconnectivity.
- Monitor and maintain the institution’s network infrastructure, meetingconnectivity and performance standards.
- Assist with advanced networktroubleshooting, configuration of network devices (such as switches, routers,and firewalls), and support for network services (such as DNS, DHCP, and VPN).
- Installand configure new hardware, software, and network components, includingoperating systems, applications, and network configurations, as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of all laboratory and network equipment, ensuring thatstock levels are adequate and that all items are properly tagged anddocumented.
- Assist users with account setup, password resets, softwareinstallations, and system updates.
- Aid students, faculty, and staff with technicalissues and provide guidance on the use of laboratory equipment, software, andnetwork resources.
- Implement and maintain security protocols to protect laboratory equipment,network infrastructure, and data, including installing antivirus software andconducting regular system scans.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance,repairs, network configurations, and support requests, and produce regularreports for the Directorof Computing and Communication Services.
- Conducttraining sessions for students and faculty on the proper use of laboratoryequipment, software, and network resources.
- Ensurethat all laboratory and network activities comply with institutional policiesand relevant regulations.
- OtherDuties as Assigned.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
- Associate's degree in computer science, Information Technology, NetworkEngineering, or a related field.
- At least1 year of experience in a technical support role, preferably within aneducational environment, with a focus on both PC and network support.
- Proficiency in Windows and Mac operating systems, experience with varioussoftware applications, strong network protocols and troubleshooting knowledge,and experience with laboratory management and network management software are aplus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explaintechnical concepts to non-technical users.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a proactive approachto identifying and resolving issues.
- Abilityto work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students, as well asindependently when needed.
- Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
- Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in a technical support role, preferably within aneducational environment, with a focus on both PC and network support.
- CompTIAA+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), MicrosoftCertified IT Professional (MCITP), or other relevant certifications are highlydesirable.
