The Loma Prieta Joint Union School District, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is a small K-8 public school district with a collaborative team of teachers and support staff who are appreciative of the support of highly involved parents.
Job Summary
The Library Technician works with our middle school students to provide a range of library services and assists students in becoming effective users of ideas and information. This is a temporary, part time position with 6 hours per week for the 2024-25 school year. Please see job description for major duties and qualifications.
Job Description / Essential Elements:Print
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist students and staff in using the resources of the library, and promote research skills using various media, including print and digital.
Support Curriculum Standards by collaborating with teachers to provide them with library resources as needed.
With the approval of the principal, review books for purchase by reading catalogs, appropriate book reviews, and online resources. Must be willing to attend school library seminars to keep abreast of current desirable library resources. These may include books, e-books, audio-books, periodicals and reference materials as well as online research up-dates.
Shelve, circulate, distribute and process books and other library materials according to district procedures. Mend and repair materials as needed.
Establish and maintain an environment that is conducive to learning.
Monitor and maintain acceptable student behavior in the library including ethical computer use.
Participate in organizing book fairs and other library activities.
Prepare Purchase Orders under the supervision of the principal.
Recruit and train parent volunteers to work in the library, with a focus on procedure and policy.
Participate in training as required and perform delegated duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
AA degree in library related field or BA/BS in any field, or equivalent experience in a school library setting.
An understanding of and ability to work with typical student behavior.
Knowledge of library practices, terminology and procedures, including preparation and maintenance of library records required. Experience with fundraising bookkeeping skills desirable.
Skills and knowledge of technology equipment and appropriate software including automated library database.
Knowledge of proper English usage and grammar.
Ability to operate library information and communication technologies including Apple system computers and internet research skills.
Ability to maintain cooperative and harmonious relationships with students, staff and the Loma Prieta community.
Understanding of current Internet safety practices regarding youth.
