Primary Responsibility :
Summary: A key change leader within the site’s leadership team reporting to the General Manager and receiving significant Safety “thought leadership” and Safety Process guidance from the Regional Safety Manager. The Facility Risk and Safety Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, optimizing, and implementing all activities related to safety and loss prevention for the site(s), to include training and accident investigations at the site. This role can apply to a single large and complex site or be a shared resource across multiple sites.
What You’ll Do :
• Responsible for driving the successful implementation of the Americold H&S Program for the site. The Risk and Safety Manager will lead a team, advise the General Manager on AMC H&S implementation, optimization and compliance and partnering with the other facility departments to foster a working environment that promotes safety, productivity, and adherence to company EHS policies and procedures, standard operating procedures and federal/state regulations. • Implement, track, and optimize Processes to identify, reduce and eliminate leading loss drivers for worker injury and workers compensation claims. • Implement, track, and optimize AMC Processes to conduct & coordinate employee training including annual refresher & new hire training required by Americold and all regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, ANSI, PSM). • Ensures site has current and accurate reporting, record-keeping, management, and follow-up of Workers' Compensation claims. • Maintain relationship with workers compensation, medical resources, and Regional Safety Organization to establish systems which provide appropriate care for associates and supports the needs of the business. • Builds site Processes to compile, analyze, and distribute weekly, monthly, and quarterly safety reports to your direct supervisor and the Regional Safety Manager. • Establish a Process to administer the facility/regional Safety Incentive Program and provide monthly reports to your direct supervisor, the GM, and Regional Safety Manager. • Coordinates with Regional Safety manager to lead and coordinate efforts at the site to ensure the H&S requirements of Americold Operating System (AOS) are being trained and institutionalized at the site. • Coordinates with Regional Safety manager to lead and coordinate efforts to ensure AMC annual H&S policy review and training are executed, tracked and compliant. • Supports the site GM to ensure sites leaders at all levels at the site are trained and competent in executing the AMC Accident Investigation Process to include obtaining detailed descriptions, corrective actions and follow through to ensure corrective actions are implemented related to accidents, near misses, injuries, or property damage. • Assist supervisors in all accident investigations and ensure proper documentation and follow-up is executed to completion. • Serve as Chairman for Safety Committee and facilitate monthly responsibilities to all members and manage monthly multi-layered audit. • Provide advice and quantitative as well as qualitative information to the General manager and the Regional Safety Manager and facility management to develop annual safety plans which adequately budget for, and address, the changing needs of the business. • If required because of the site’s functions and organizational design: The role would oversee compliance with DOT regulations for drivers and vehicles and coordinate the efforts of “Loss Prevention” resources and or team members and Processes designed to investigate and eliminate pilferage and theft and / or implement and maintain other physical security measures at the site. • Use quantitative and qualitative information to implement H&S Continuous Improvement programs at the site, designed to improve the knowledge and skill of the facility supervisors to advance systems and positively impact the safe operations of the business. • Act as on-site coordinator between hourly staff and management on any safety related issues. If the site has a collective bargaining agreement, support the General Manager in the in engaging the Bargaining Unit leadership at all levels on the importance of the AMC Safety Program and ensuring the collective bargaining agreement is followed and implemented as it relates to H&S policies, procedures, and potential corrective actions • Provide managers with ongoing feedback on Americold H&S compliance, employee training goals and objectives. • Other duties as requested.
What Experience and Education You Need :
• HS Diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree strongly preferred • 3+ years leading a H&S team in an industrial or warehouse environment • If applying to a site with a CBA – prior union experience strongly preferred • Will consider candidates with a strong regulatory or compliance background • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, calculators, desktop computers and photocopiers

• Ability to lead formal and informal teams, implementing and continuous improving Processes and programs related to H&S in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. • Bilingual skills considered a plus for any candidate. Ability to communicate effectively in 360 degrees from front line associates to vice presidents and above. • Ability to pay close attention to detail and apply quantitative information to identify and eliminate root causes to ensure H&S metrics and KPI’s meet or exceed agreed targets • Strong interpersonal skills and judgment in communicating with staff. • Must be able to relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions: they must get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to coaching from a manager. • Willingness to develop a mentoring relationship to contribute experience, skills, and wisdom to subordinate employees for their development. • Receptive to management development suggestions and willing to seek additional knowledge to facilitate job growth. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously. • Must have very strong customer service orientation with high sense of urgency in meeting objectives and deadlines.
