As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Trades Apprentice or Mechanic 1-3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum salary for the Mechanic 3 is $3,649.00. Trade Apprentice: $16.06 hourly valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License may be required
Mechanic 1 $17.18 hourly valid Louisiana Driver’s License may be required
Mechanic 2 $19.67 hourly valid Louisiana Driver’s License may be required
Mechanic 3 $21.05 hourly valid Louisiana Driver’s License may be required

Examples of work:
60% Perform measurements, drawing and laying out materials such as iron, aluminum plates and channel iron to be cut with torch and/or welded together. Grinds and cleans materials to be welded. Braze, welds, fits and/or installs welded parts onto equipment and structures as required. Assists more advanced personnel in the welding shop.
15% Operate mobile equipment such as winch trucks, forklifts or front-end loaders. May be required to assist district mechanics. Completes daily work reports and other related paperwork. May contact staff outside of normal chain of command including district warehouse staff or private sector vendors for welding supply inventory and information. Assist in the repair of welding equipment and report equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel for repairs. Enrolls in and maintains required internal structured training curriculum. .
10% Assist in determining equipment and supplies needed for appropriate welding job. Ensures welding equipment is in safe, working condition prior to usage and that materials and equipment are used properly, safely and efficiently. Required to work overhead, vertical and on flat surfaces. After usage, stores tools/equipment in proper place and cleans shop-area. Assists co-workers in accomplishing workload in most efficient manner.
10% Designs and fabricates a variety of items including trash barrels, drainage covers, truck hardware, brackets, equipment racks and cages.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to emergency/disaster
Support activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
