Position Objective:
Processes incoming orders from storeroom warehouse, wholesaler, and direct vendors completely and accurately, following department guidelines.

- Acts as a resource for all new employees regarding inventory management standard processes.
- Responds to inquiries about medication availability in a timely manner. Communicates medication availability inquiries to management, as appropriate (e.g. non-formulary requests). Answers phone inquiries regarding purchasing and stock replenishment
- Supports the pharmacy goal to decrease on-shelf inventory by maintaining adequate, but not excessive, stock using industry standards to determine shelf levels of items.
- Follows hospital policy regarding formulary management and non-formulary purchases.
- Maintains compliance with the hospital Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO) buying practices by meeting with drug and wholesaler representatives, identifying contract opportunities presented by GPO communications, and assisting the Director of Pharmacy in negotiating contractual agreements with the ultimate goal of reducing medication expense to the organization.
- In conjunction with the Data Analyst, Automation Technician Specialist, and the Pharmacy Director, schedules a departmental inventory twice a year, or at a frequency deemed appropriate by the Finance Department, and reports results to appropriate administrators.
- Communicates ordering, supply, and /or backorder issues in a timely manner with the pharmacy leadership. Provides supportive information to facilitate timely and accurate reporting of medication supply issues all hospital staff and physicians when necessary.
- Responds to all notices of medication recalls, assesses on-hand inventory for affected medications/lots, quarantines all affected on-hand medications/lots, and communicates and documents response as required by recall information provided.
- Attempts, through whatever resources are available and in conjunction with pharmacy leadership, to obtain hard-to-find pharmaceutical products or therapeutic alternatives.
- Complies with all State and Federal regulations with regard to purchasing medications and maintains required documentation (e.g. pedigree controls).
Educational/Experience Requirements:
The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, computer keyboard skills and basic math aptitude are required.
