The Food Services Research Assistant at the Children's Community School (CCS) provides support to help further improve the delivery of our food services through the State's Child Nutrition Program This position requires up to 25 hours per week as well as approval from financial aid for Federal Work Study. Essential Duties and Responsibilities . Children's Community School, through the assistance of Post University, would welcome a University Student who is majoring in Nutrition Programming or a Business Major who can assist our school in identifying a method that we can better track the meals we distribute to each class and specifically each child. Only the lunchtime meal has all students, in two separate sittings, present. A new tracking/ verification system is just one of several adjustments that a Post Work Study Program participant may be able to bring with their energy, an observer's viewpoint, and a distinct academic specialty that will help CCS serve the meals in an even greater capacity. This opportunity may allow the school to meet all CNP criteria in a more efficient manner and lead to a more effective process to help calculate the nutritional and budgetary requirements. How This Position Will Benefit You as a Student:The food service program at Children's Community is a State subsidized by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) which supports nutrition through the administration of federal grants provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA Child Nutrition Programs as it pertains to CCS include the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), Afterschool Snack Program (ASP), Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP), and Seamless Summer Option (SSO) of the NSLP. Funds and regulations related to these programs are administered in collaboration with the USDA. As a Work Study participant, you will not only help the school in maintaining and refining it's nutritional protocols and tracking, but see the impact within the school for the students, witness and assist in meeting the dietary requirements in food preparation and distribution processes as well as the many steps required to attain state and federal funding according to all regulations. A percentage of our CCS students have food insecurity concerns at home, so the proper kitchen services are vital to our meeting the dietary needs of our children.
