Position: Special Education Coordinator
Location: assigned to the Student Services Division

State Date: August 2024
Reports to: Principal
Compensation: Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website
Work Year: 10 months
POSITION GOAL:
To create and sustain an educational environment conducive to the fulfillment of the District’s Mission so that maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized. A teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instruction based on the approved curriculum and Common Core State Standards to help students move towards academic proficiency.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
1. Must be eligible or hold certification as a Teacher of Special Education K-12
2. Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Special Education Teacher or
Relevant certification as a related service provider
3. Bachelor’s degree or Master degree
4. Student Teaching
5. Proficient in Technology, Microsoft Office Applications, Children’s Educational
Software etc.
6. Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and
socioeconomic groups.
7. Show evidence of knowledge regarding practices known to be effective in
promoting student learning while shows evidence of knowledge while
increasing student achievement
8. Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job related tasks.
9. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position
10. Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry
in the State of Delaware.
11. Must be able to teach/serve students remotely and in person depending on the
needs of their students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Assure compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations for documenting and monitoring programming for students covered by the IDEA.
Organize and monitor case manager responsibilities.
Facilitate all required meetings for students on your caseload who are covered by the IDEA..
Maintain accurate information required for creating and maintaining records.
Collaborate with other district/building instructional staff to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities
Report to the building principal on a monthly basis regarding the status of the case manager and specialist responsibilities.
Deliver professional development and training to ensure best practices and compliance with Special Education matters
Respond to parent requests for all students in the attendance area of the building, including parents in private and parochial schools.
Respond to parent requests for all IDEA-related matters all regarding students in the attendance area of the building, including for students who are “parentally-placed” in private and parochial schools.
Prepare required paperwork and act as presenter at District IEP meetings.
Assist school leadership team with a variety of school operations, climate, and instructional leadership tasks and activities.
Attend and participate in a variety of professional development opportunities and
meetings including but not limited to Instructional Leadership Seminars, District Leadership Meetings, and Special Education Coordinator Meetings.
Maintain current knowledge of critical legal issues in the provision of special education services.
Perform other duties as requested by the Principal, Director in Student Services, or a Supervisor in Student Services as required to meet the needs of the district.
