This position has the responsibility for the coding and abstracting of records including, but not limited to, Emergency Department visits, ambulatory surgeries, short stays and referred outpatients, Inpatient charts.

1. Consistently applies infection control policies/practices.
2. Meets population specific competencies.
3. Attends department specific education/training, inservices, staff meetings.
4. Department specific performance improvement project.
5. Responsible for meeting the department productivity and accuracy standards for the coding of all outpatient accounts.

1. Accurate coding utilizing ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
2. Serve as a resource to physicians and other hospital personnel.
3. Demonstrated skills in
4. Ability to handle large volume of work in a timely manner
5. Exhibit excellent customer service to patients/guests
6. Understand and apply all aspects of the Evident Abstracting system & seek ways to enhance performance.
7. Performs other duties as assigned

• Professional licensure in a clinical discipline may also be considered when combined with eligibility to sit for RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding conventions and reimbursement rules.
• Associate degree in Health Information Administration preferred.
• Proficiency with computers and keyboarding skills

• CCS or CCS-P certification required or must sit for and pass the national exam within 12-months of job entry.
