Reporting to the Deputy Director of Stewardship, the Associate Director of Stewardship supports Yale’s comprehensive and strategic central stewardship program.
The Associate Director works collaboratively with Marketing & Communications colleagues as well as individuals within the Office of Development, schools and units, and other departments, to ensure the accuracy and quality of all stewardship digital, print, video, and social media materials.
They execute a variety of complex projects including, Yale College program funds, travel funds, graduate fellowships and professorship narratives. Duties include the collection information from multiple sources, writing, editing copy, and articulating the overall vision and strategic direction to key stakeholders while closely supervising progress and ensuring the success of each initiative. Assist the Deputy Director with strategic projects including generating and/or reviewing complex data lists and developing quality control measures to ensure data integrity. The Associate Director works as a key content resource to development colleagues and serves as the primary stewardship liaison to various academic partners like the Center for International and Professional Experience (CIPE) and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
The Associate Director consistently demonstrates the ability to reinforce institutional messaging through tailored stewardship outreach channels that align with donor preferences and customizes and personalizes reports according to the circumstances and the donor’s/recipient’s relationship to the University. Oversees and manages a range of stewardship activities to ensure that the university creates, nurtures, and sustains long-term personal relations with its alumni, parents, and friends, inspiring further support for the university’s important programs and initiatives. 2. Oversees the editing process, and supervises research, drafting, and mailing of personalized and timely stewardship reports to donors on endowed and current use funds. 3. Supervises the selection of appropriate students to be matched to Yale's named scholarship/fellowship funds, the preparation of student award letters, and the tracking and mailing of student thank you letters. 4. Oversees the management of data recorded regarding stewardship reporting responsibilities and reporting information in the alumni/donor data base. Identifies and resolves any issues related to the administration of reporting funds. 5. Trains, supervises, appraises performance, and mentors staff. Sets unit's timeliness metrics to achieve annual reporting goals; develops project plans specifying strategy, scheduling, contingency plans and allocation of staff resources. 6. Builds and maintains productive working relationships with development and donor-relations staff in the professional schools and other units to coordinate fund reporting responsibilities and ensure high quality donor reporting. Serves as a resource for sharing best practices with colleagues and other universities. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant professional experience, with two or more years in donor relations, stewardship, or a comparable area, preferably in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
