Job Abstract

St. Mary's School in Rockville Maryland is hiring a School Nurse for the 2024-25 school year.

The School Nurse will work closely with the Principal, teachers, students and parent to maintain a healthy and safe environment.

The primary responsibility of the nurse is to provide health services to students when they are at school. In this role you will treat students and staff with multiple medical needs (to include injuries and acute and chronic illnesses) during the school day and throughout the year.

Required for this role are excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate with children, their parents or guardians, and teachers.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or illness
• Dispense medication as prescribed
• Develop health plans for students with chronic illness or disabilities
• Maintain student health records (including vaccination records) in accordance with the Health Department of Maryland and the Catholic Schools office.
• Educate students on healthy habits such as proper nutrition and hygiene.
• Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
• Distribute health information to the school community as needed
• Maintain confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.
• Identifies health-related barriers to learning
• Contact Emergency Medical Services in collaboration with site administration, when necessary, to respond to medical emergencies.
• Obtains and organizes needed medical and administrative supplies necessary to provide health services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing
• Experience as a registered nurse, licensed in the state of Maryland
• Knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices as applied to children and youth
• Able to provide effective nursing and related health services for students
• Maintain competencies and clinical nursing skills
• Multi-task efficiently while managing a high-volume workload in a fast-paced, changing environment
• At least 2 years of relevant experience
