Position Description
The Harris Health Internal Audit team of the Harris County Auditor’s Office needs an experienced and motivated Senior Auditor. The ideal candidate will have hospital audit experience and great project management, interpersonal, and compliance-oriented skills. As a Senior Auditor, you will play a critical role in providing Harris Health System with independent, objective assurance and consulting services.
The Harris Health System Senior Auditor will work under the direct leadership of the Audit Manager with support from the Audit Director. The Senior Auditor will:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, execute, and report on health system audits to assess Harris Health System’s adherence to laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Conduct annual risk assessments to identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate the risks.
Examine organizational policies, procedures, contracts, laws, and other relevant documentation to determine compliance and evaluate internal controls.
Analyze data and financial records to detect irregularities or non-compliance.
Prepare clear and concise audit reports that highlight findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
Build effective relationships throughout Harris County as a trusted advisor.
Maintain current knowledge on Harris Health System and general healthcare operations to ensure Harris County’s program remains effective.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or other related fields from an accredited college or university.
Three (3+) years of healthcare industry experience.
Certification:
Relevant professional certification, e.g., CIA, CPA, CISA or CFE
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Highly effective project management skills with the ability to adeptly handle multiple tasks.
Understanding of Institute of Internal Audit Standards, Texas and Local Government Code, applicable regulations and/or policies and procedures.
Exceptional ability to think critically and analyze complex issues and information.
Strong knowledge of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation, state and federal healthcare regulations, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and healthcare accreditation standards.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic workpapers, and enterprise resource planning systems.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines.
Well-developed interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain a high degree of judgment, discretion, and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Willingness to take on additional tasks and projects outside of core areas of expertise.

The Harris County Auditor’s Office is led by the County Auditor and includes the Accounting and Internal Audit divisions which are charged with financial oversight of the county.
The Internal Audit Division includes the Harris Health System Internal Audit team, which is the designated internal audit function for Harris Health System (Harris Health). Harris Health is a fully integrated healthcare system that cares for all residents of Harris County and consists of community health centers, same-day clinics, three multi-specialty clinic locations, a dental center, mobile health units, and two full-service hospitals: Ben Taub Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (LBJ). Ben Taub and LBJ are verified Level I and Level III trauma centers, respectively, and operate the two busiest emergency centers in the Houston area. An average of 573 patients occupy Harris Health’s hospital beds each day, and nearly 262,000 patients are seen in the system each year. Additionally, Harris Health is a teaching system for Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Nature of Work:
Physical requirements for the position are the ability to sit for extended periods of time and the ability to push/pull up to 50 lbs. and lift/carry up to 20 lbs.
Occasional travel throughout Harris County will be required.
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek or on weekends when special projects or deadlines need to be met.
