The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for a well-trained and versatile public health workforce across California. RADR’s mission is to build organizational capacity for outbreak response, establish and expand the workforce, improve training and skills, and promote health equity. The RADR Disease Intervention Services (DIS) Fellowship aims to build capacity to respond to public health emergencies, such as COVID-19, by training and providing a workforce pathway for early-career public health professionals from all areas and communities across the state. The San Francisco Department of Public Health is dedicated to supporting the next generation of public health professionals through the RADR DIS Fellowship.
The mission of the RADR DIS Fellowship is to:
• Create a workforce experience for early-career public health professionals from diverse backgrounds and disproportionately affected communities to conduct communicable disease prevention and control, community engagement and emergency response activities at communicable disease program sites
• Ensure a well-trained public health workforce across California that can effectively and efficiently respond to public health issues to ensure the health and safety of the population
RADR DIS fellows are entry-level public health professionals who receive training and field experience at the individual and community level. After an initial intensive training including a core foundational orientation to DPH from the Learning Management System (LMS), RADR DIS fellows will have the opportunity to gain exposure to communicable disease, STI/HIV, and tuberculosis prevention while working as an integrated member of the core RADR team.
As part of their fellowship, trainees will build relationships across departments, collaborate in developing outbreak simulation exercises, further enhance and refine training materials, learn valuable skills as a trainer and facilitator, and gain exposure to DIS experience across disease areas. Fellows will be encouraged to think ‘outside of the box’ and apply their workforce training and skill building in both foundational and specialized public health competencies and innovation for disease management. They will have opportunities to work on initiatives that aim to improve health equity and digital literacy for the community and the workforce. Their experience will culminate in the development and presentation of a capstone contribution in a chosen area of interest or expertise as part of their professional development.
This is a temporary, grant-funded, full-time, benefitted position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health. This is a hybrid position that requires some in person work.
Pay rate: $37.13 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Orient to SFDPH, the Population Health Department division, and RADR; become comfortable with technology required for role; complete onboarding training overviewing foundational components to role (eg., privacy and security)
• Conducts content research for HIV/STI projects and RADR training projects as assigned to strengthen disease response in the Disease Prevention and Control Branch
• Assists in outbreak response and creation of DIS resources/educational materials as needed
• Administers and summarizes results of training and workshop evaluations
• Provide 1:1 or small group support to DIS staff in use of technology tools (I.e., computer, video, audio, software, internet)
• Supports the maintenance of content in a Learning Management System
• Supports in development and maintenance of workflows and standard works
• Identifies areas needed for follow up (client specific, systems/operational, quality and/or training opportunities) to the Training Coordinator - RADR
• Participates in quality improvement conversations with supervisors
• Builds collaborative relationships with staff in the Communicable Disease Section, the Tuberculosis Section, and the HIV/STI Section
• Documents activities and enters data as appropriate in a timely, accurate, and comprehensive manner per established protocol
• Performs all work activities per established protocols and procedures
• Attends and actively participates in all relevant meetings and trainings
• Meets with supervisor weekly and as needed to report progress and solve problems
• Assures ethical practices and maintains confidentiality; ensures that all patients' rights are protected
• Collaborates and supports activities of RADR team and other teams within the Population Health Division as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Must meet at least ONE of the following)
• High school diploma or equivalent AND at least four years of any work experience
• Associate Degree AND at least two years of any work experience
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalence
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• We strongly encourage applicants representing communities who experience an excess or unknown burden of communicable disease, health disparity, and who are historically underrepresented in the sector of public health intervention
• At least six months of full-time work experience in a public or private agency providing communicable disease control (e.g., case investigation/contact tracing for COVID-19, TB, STD or other diseases) OR
• At least one year of full-time work experience in a public or private organization providing health and human service activities (e.g., community or global health, maternal and child health, health education, clinical support, environmental health, health policy, social and behavioral health, or another related program).
• Native or advanced-level proficiency in both English and Spanish or another language widely used in San Francisco

• Is tech savvy—High level of comfort with a range of technologies and using them simultaneously — Microsoft 360 Suite, databases
