JOB OPENING NJROTC INSTRUCTOR - NAVAL SCIENCE BRIDGEPORT MILITARY ACADEMY UNAFFILIATED
OVERVIEW: The Bridgeport Military Academy offers students the opportunity to experience their secondary education in a challenging environment with an emphasis on excellence in academics while also exploring careers in public safety. The Naval Science Instructor (NSI) will work with the Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI), and other members of the school staff, to inspire students to develop a strong commitment to servicing “others above self” within the school community. This position reports to the Principal of the school.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will assist the Principal in establishing the elements of military-style decorum among all cadets.
Coordinate with SNSI on curriculum infusion.
Introduce and implement strategies for student understanding and practice of military values.
Serve as a positive role model in all aspects of a public service environment.
Oversee and manage morning assembly and inspection and establish duty assignments.
Train cadets with necessary basic military commands and proper execution associated with assembly and inspection.
Develop a merit/demerit system process associated with inspection and submit to Principal for review and compliance.
Promote a healthy and productive learning culture for students and staff consistent with military tradition.
Assist each student in his/her effort to become a highly motivated, well disciplined, and both physically and academically prepared member of BMA.
Provide leadership in the delivery of the standards of military bearing and courtesy, consistent with the highest traditions of the NJROTC.
In concert with and under the principal’s direction, build broad support with the school staff to establish systems to sustain a NJROTC/First Responder educational program.
REQUIREMENTS:
Retired from a sea service (Navy, Marines, Coast Guard) with honorable discharge
Certified by Navy JROTC headquarters to be a NSI
Minimum level: E-6 or above
Extensive knowledge and expertise of military protocol
Experience in the use of technology. Excellent computer skills
Experience in the evaluation of cadet performance
Experience working with a diverse student populations
Proven ability in supporting cadets in developing their practice and ability to handle training responsibilities
Peer Observer or willingness to be trained and qualify as a Peer Observer
Passion and commitment for capacity building
Ability to motivate others in a respectful, collegial and professional manner
Enthusiasm about being part of a team process and learning environment
Demonstrated leadership abilities, including evidence of the flexibility and creative thinking needed to be a leader
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated organizational and management skills
Experience building constructive and effective interpersonal relationships with administrators, staff, parents, students and community
