Willdan Lighting & Electric currently has an opening for an Energy Engineer in our Maspeth, NY office. This role collaborates with a dynamic team of engineers, project coordinators, project managers, inspectors and program managers who are passionate about energy efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform onsite inspections to identify energy efficiency measures; gather the information needed to analyze energy saving opportunities; perform energy saving calculations (cost savings and potential incentive amounts) and validate energy savings.
Review of engineering documents, architectural, mechanical, and/or electrical plans, energy performance specifications, and technical drawings to evaluate energy efficiency and ensure all program and project requirements are met.
Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to energy consumption, costs, savings, and overall building performance.
Develop proposals and scopes of work for energy efficiency projects, including cost effectiveness calculations such as Return on Investments (ROI) and Simple Paybacks.
Communicate and collaborate with contractors and clients to ensure project completion and customer satisfaction; coordinating project work deadlines and meetings.
Providing consultation and presenting work to project teams including owners, architects, and engineers.
Communicate energy conservation measures effectively to both technical and non-technical project team members to assist them in making informed design decisions.
Provide energy market analysis to project future energy goals. Conduct research to identify emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in energy efficiency.
Facilitate training sessions and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of program team members.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum 4-year degree in technical field such as Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Construction Management, Building Science or closely related field.
Have a good knowledge of lighting principles.
Must know how to perform detailed lighting audits.
Knowledge of building design, construction processes, HVAC equipment (such as heat pump technology, boilers, chillers, pumps, fans, VFDs, etc), and/or building operation.
2 to 5 years of demonstrated experience with building energy analysis: interpreting complex information; performing cost/benefit analysis; making strategic recommendations to guide decision-making based on the analysis; assessing consequences and impacts of alternative system options.
Above average competence with Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel for data analysis and energy simulation support.
Strong interpersonal, written communication, and customer service skills, and experience with Microsoft office suite with emphasis on Excel, for data analysis and energy savings calculations.
Previous experience developing and supporting energy efficiency measures, strategies and deliveries in utility sponsored energy efficiency programs.
Ability to work independently and manage tasks across multiple projects.
Knowledge of thermodynamics, physics, and mathematics.
Knowledge of energy codes and standards (ASHRAE 55, 62.1, 90.1, IECC).
Any of the following industry related certifications are preferred:
Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
Certified Energy Auditor (CEA)
Multi-Family Building Analyst (MFBA)
Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP)
LEED Accredited Professional
Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP)
Commissioning Authority (CxA)
