The Clinial Informatics Specialist is responsible for working with clinical areas to optimize and drive efficiencies with clinical processes and electronic health record (EHR) as a tool for improvement. As specialists, they act as a liaison for the end users to the application analysts and report writers who organize and validate data. They identify areas of opportunity for efficiency, system compliance, and find solutions to leverage technology for outcome improvements. Clinical Informatics Specialist will stay up to date on clinical decision support opportunities in the EHR to work with clinical areas to drive strategic goals. Clinical Informatics Specialist will also be responsible for testing and providing training and communication to business areas for Epic upgrades, workflow changes, and areas for improvement. Assists customers in identifying systems solutions to meet functional needs, streamline, and ensure patient safety and confidentiality. Defines and designs in conjunction with user departments, applications to meet on going specific needs. Work with reporting analysts to identify value stream processes for improvement and engage business owners to improve data outcomes. Provide credential training services for optimization, new employees, and upgrades. Organizes and conducts training classes for one-on-one or “train the trainer” approach. Other duties as assigned.
Education – BSN required. Experienced RN with ASN or Diploma must obtain BSN within 5 years of hire. **If internal hire is already on a BSN deadline, then the deadline will transfer to new role. Otherwise, the 5 year deadline begins at time of start in this role.
Experience – Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical practice, hospital/clinic preferred (surgical services, emergency services, critical care, medical surgical). • Prior committee and/or project focused work. • Clinical systems and technology experience preferred. Licensure/Certification – Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or if resident of a state that participates in Nurse Multi-State Compact agreement, holds Registered Nurse License from that state that is designated as "Compact" or "Multi-State Privilege" using primary source verification and provides additional documentation as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing. RN License from a compact state with a designation of "Single State" does not meet the requirement and nurse must obtain a Maryland license. Certification in Nursing Informatics preferred. Credentialed trainer certification from Epic required within 6 weeks of employment/start.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Demonstrated basic knowledge of change management principles and teamwork. Seeking an effective communicator that actively listens to understand issues, and follows up with end users on resolution. Ability to work in complex healthcare delivery model. Advocates for streamlined processes utilizing lean tools to improve standard and quality of care. Excellent communication/interpersonal skills. Proficient Epic navigation and able to problem solve.
