The primary responsibility of the Project Engineer/Project Manager is to manage the engineering, installation, and overall
project management of capital projects that involve DC power, AC power, emergency backup power (e.g., generators),
HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), facility management systems (e.g., fire alarms, building automation
systems, etc.), and space preparation in Verizon facilities, while assuring on-time delivery, adherence to standards and
maintaining total costs within the allocated capital project budget.
Additionally, the Project Engineer is required to manage vendor & contractor performance associated with assigned
projects and programs with current policies and practices in order to meet Verizon goals and objectives. Inclusive of
continuing workforce integration, cost reduction and performance enhancement. The Project Engineer is also expected to
perform their job functions with minimum guidance, while at the same time working with his/her Manager to keep them
informed and requesting support/guidance when required. They should exhibit the ability to work independently on a
range of projects from inception to completion, manage internal and external resources effectively, establish and maintain
process and procedures, prioritize work load on business objectives and support management on special initiatives.
Key areas of responsibility are as follows:
Manage, review and approve development of detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
Work closely and coordinate with Network Field Engineers, Operations Personnel, and Real Estate Personnel.
Manages various facilities based activities in Verizon network Central Offices / Technical Facilities to support network growth and strategic initiatives.
Ensures all system designs and plans meet customer requirements and company standards, and are compatible with network equipment installations.
Oversees the project teams of contractors and design professional to ensure coordination of activities with various stakeholders for timely completion of projects within established budget.
Engineering, and construction of HVAC, primary power (AC & DC), back-up power (generators & batteries), building automation, fire protection, building envelop and other critical systems; new floor space and infrastructure construction; system commissioning, and decommissioning and restoration
Budget estimation, creation, coordination, submission and tracking.
Managing contractors to assure completion and quality of performance. Carries out project and program fiduciary responsibilities in accordance with the organization's standards, policies and applicable Federal, State and local laws.
Reviewing implementation schedules on continuing basis to ensure network facilities have capacity within objective targets for customer demands and future growth.
You’ll need to have:
Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program.
Bachelor’s degree or five or more years of work experience.
Five or more years of experience in construction or A&E design.
Experience in Engineering and Network Assurance standards.
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering construction principles.
Knowledge of Telecommunications facilities design and construction plans.
Knowledge of AC Utility Power, Electrical switch gear, DC equipment power distribution, AC equipment power distribution, cooling, generators, and aisle containment.
Knowledge of engineering, construction, implementation and operation of HVAC/facility cooling, AC/DC Power, and Supply & Demand Network analysis based on network engineering growth, and energy technology.
Knowledge of National Electrical Code requirements and other regulatory guidelines.
Willingness for localized travel up to 75%.
A valid Driver's license.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Facility Management, Construction Management, or relevant technical degree.
Project Management certification is preferred
Experience with DC Power: GE Lineage (ABB), Emerson, Marconi, Lorain.
Experience with AC Switchgear: Vertiv, ASCO, Square D, Cutler Hammer, Russ Electric, ABB.
Working knowledge of Data Networks and failure domain impacts.
Knowledge of Verizon network standards.
Strong Vendor management and project management skills with experience managing complex cross functional technical projects. A self-starter with the ability to work in a fast paced work environment managing multiple projects with a record of delivering results within prescribed timelines.
Strong PC skills with working understanding of AutoCAD and project management software experience.
Must possess professional communications skills both verbally and written.
Customer Focus, Network Technology Design and Construction, Project Management and Supervision, Sourcing and procurement. Telecommunications Systems and Infrastructure Installation, Personal Safety Equipment and use, Project Safety. Vendor Management.
Strong project management and supervisory skills with working knowledge of Cable/power distribution, backup power supplies, HVAC, AC & DC Power, UPS, Generators, alarm systems and Fire Protection Systems.
Requires a range of skills within a professional discipline including familiarity with principles, theories, concepts and technologies as well as applied knowledge of established procedures, policies and practices.
Bachelor’s degree (or comparable experience) in conjunction with 5-10 Years job-related training and/or experience in technical field including facility and/or network engineering recommended
Must have a good computer background and working skills: familiar with AutoCAD and project management software preferred.
