Job Goal

• To help students develop effective communication skills, overcome speech and language challenges, and achieve academic success

Qualifications Required:

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field

• State Certification or licensure as a speech-language pathologist (061)

• Experience working with elementary school-aged children

• Familiarity with various speech and language disorders and their interventions

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and fellow educators

• Ability to collaborate with other professionals, including teachers, special education staff, and administrators

• Patience and empathy when working with students facing speech and language challenges

• Flexibility to adapt interventions based on individual student needs

• Proficiency in using relevant technology and tools for assessment and therapy

• Adherence to ethical standards and codes of conduct in the field of speech and language pathology

• Possesses extensive knowledge of needs, behavior and growth patterns of children ages 5-10

Performance Responsibilities:

Assessment and Evaluation:

• Conduct assessments to identify speech and language disorders or delays in students.

• Evaluate students' communication skills and develop individualized plans based on their needs.

Planning and Implementing Interventions:

• Design and implement speech and language therapy sessions tailored to students' specific challenges.

• Collaborate with other educators and specialists to integrate speech and language goals into the overall curriculum.

Individual and Group Therapy:

• Provide one-on-one and group therapy sessions to address speech and language issues.

• Offer support to students with diverse communication needs, including articulation, fluency, voice, and language disorders.

Progress Monitoring:

• Regularly assess and monitor students' progress in achieving speech and language goals.

• Adjust intervention strategies as needed to ensure continual improvement.

Communication with Parents and Teachers:

• Communicate effectively with parents to share progress, strategies, and home-based activities to support speech and language development.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, interventions, and progress reports.

• Provide formal and informal reports to parents, teachers, and administrators regarding students' speech and language development.

Professional Development:

• Stay informed about the latest research, techniques, and resources in speech and language pathology.

• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Terms of Employment:

• Salary and work year to be established by the Contract between the Weston Board of Education and the Weston Teachers Association

Reports to: Elementary School Principal

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education’s policy.
