DEFINITION:
Positions are under the supervision of the site administrator. Incumbents are assigned responsibilities for cleaning of a school site and/or district facility to be kept at a high standard of cleanliness and safe operating condition so that full educational use can be made at all times.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Under supervision of site administrator, keeps assigned school facilities, sanitary, safe and orderly; does special cleaning periodically or as required; and performs job related duties as required. Daily assigned cleaning and disinfecting may include classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, gymnasiums, MPR, offices/staff lounges, lobbies, locker rooms, weight room, exercise room, libraries, entry ways, lunch areas, and common interior areas.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:
- Sweeps, dusts, mops, strips, seals, scrubs, waxes, and cleans floors, including surfaces of many types;
- vacuums and shampoos rugs and carpets;
- dusts, cleans, waxes and polishes woodwork, furniture and shelves;
- cleans walls, floors, whiteboards, desks, tables, chairs, and equipment;
- disinfects areas as required;
- cleans and disinfects kitchens, gyms/MPR, weight rooms, showers, restrooms, and locker rooms;
- removes webs, dirt, and other debris from inside and outside of buildings;
- polishes metal works;
- replenishes toilet paper, soap, and other supplies;
- cleans windows inside and outside
- moves and adjusts site based furniture or equipment for special activities, and as needed;
- assists school personnel with heavy objects;
- inspects buildings for broken or defective equipment;
- reports the need for, or makes minor repairs on furniture and equipment;
- cleans light fixtures and replaces bulbs;
- empties and cleans waste receptacle and disposes of trash;
- power washes buildings and windows as needed;
- sweep and power wash walkways and lunch areas, as needed;
- unlocks and locks doors, windows, and gates;
- raise and lower flags;
- assists in maintaining safe buildings and equipment and reports safety hazards;
- maintains tight security on school property;
- checks and reports unauthorized personnel in and around school buildings;
- drives vehicles such as utility cart or golf carts, as necessary to transport equipment, printed material, furniture, supplies, etc. on site;
- operates and maintains cleaning equipment;
- participates in deep cleaning of facilities during non student/school recess periods;
- may perform minor painting projects;
- inventory and maintain adequate supply levels;
- secures campus and sets alarms each night before leaving;
- performs other job related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
? cleaning methods and schedules used in custodial work;
? cleaning materials such as soap, solvents, disinfectants, detergents and waxes;
? safe work practices standards for safe use of chemicals, and equipment, including knowledge of material safety data sheets;
? safety practices applied to custodial work;
? custodial equipment, its care and maintenance requirements.
ABILITY TO:
? operate custodial equipment with skill and efficiency;
? perform minor maintenance of equipment, furniture, and buildings;
? follow written and oral instruction and schedules;
? work cooperatively with others;
? lift and move heavy items;
? climb and work from ladders;
? maintain the security of toxic materials;
? work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Heavy work, i.e pushing, and/or pulling up to approximately 100 pounds. Job may call for lifting and/or carrying up to 100 pounds with assistance. With frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires standing and walking for prolonged periods.
Education, Training, and Experience:
? Custodial experience is preferred;
? Must have high school diploma or GED;
? Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language at a level sufficient to perform the duties assigned.
Licenses and Certifications
? Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required.
? Clean driving record with the DMV.
? Insurability by District liability insurance carrier is required.
