The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Dance Teacher, Firestone CLC, Job Code 006, TS 380 (190 days), Salary Range TBD. Extended time will be required before and/or after the school year for this position which will be compensated at the hourly extended time rate as needed. Collective Bargaining Unit – AEA. This position is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

Valid Ohio K-12 Dance Education License;
A commitment to working with students, professionals and community members in a multi-cultural setting.
Desired:
Demonstrated expertise and experience in the instruction of dance and/or the production of dance recitals, performances and productions;
Willingness to work evenings and weekend performances, when necessary;
Strong belief in the concept of integrating arts and academics;
Flexibility in scheduling and working with students and staff;
Willingness to attend summer in-service program prior to opening of school;
Willingness to serve as sponsor for the school’s chapter of the Dance Honor Society, an honor society for dance students.

Plans and prepares daily lesson plans and related activities aligned to dance standards;
Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of dance students;
Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives;
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides regular progress reports;
Employs a variety of instructional techniques to deliver blended instruction;
Designs and conducts recruitment/outreach programs to attract new dance participants;
Counsels with colleagues, students and/or parents on a regular basis;
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct;
Develops reasonable rules of classroom behaviors and procedures;
Maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner;
Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations;
Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned;
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence;
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required;
Reports to and carries out any other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
