The Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy (HBC) Program Apheresis Quality Nurse Specialist will play a key role in developing, coordinating, managing, and executing tasks under the purview of the Quality Nurse Manager, Director of Operations, the Apheresis Medical Director, and HBC Program Medical Director. Requires the capacity to deal with a diverse group of personnel and faculty, ability to multitask and deal with high volumes of work, and a sense for quality, project management, and problem solving.
The HBC Apheresis Quality Nurse Specialist will work closely with the Quality Nurse Manager and with other managers from Infusion, Apheresis, Inpatient and Outpatient Clinical Units, and the Blood and Marrow Transplant Lab on projects designed to improve effectiveness or efficiency in several quality initiatives, data management, efficiency in quality operations, and to assist with development of benchmarks to better oversee the entire quality aspects of the Department. The Apheresis Quality Nurse Specialist will also represent HBC in interactions with the Emergency Department and other internal and external departments/stakeholders including collection device and other equipment and supply vendors.
The Adult Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy (HBC) program is expanding in both size and scope (cellular therapies). The successful candidate will use skills as an experienced and seasoned apheresis quality nurse specialist to manage, plan, and administer the data and quality of the HBC Program. Demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Reporting to the HBC Quality Nurse Manager, the candidate will be an independent, detail oriented individual, who contributes to quality improvement initiatives, and is committed to the values of the program. The candidate will be a highly organized individual who is able to abstract, trend and analyze clinical data and quality metrics. The candidate will be able to collect and synthesize data to monitor quality benchmarks, create reports, audits, and will share these findings at a Quality Management Committee (QMC) and other departments. The candidate will utilize these findings to perform short and long term planning and collaborate in the development of strategies to work towards achieving the set goals and metrics of the HBC quality program.

- Five-plus (5+) years of related apheresis quality experience
- In-depth knowledge of QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements
- In-depth knowledge of QI models, tools, and techniques, including collection, abstraction, validation, analysis, reporting of data, and use of performance and benchmark indicators
- Advanced knowledge of various administrative and business software packages, and of the specialized applications for quality data management
- EPIC experience
- MasterControl experience
- Qualification in Apheresis (QIA)
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and / or experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of related apheresis quality experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Advanced skills to influence and persuade staff, management, and clinicians at all levels and across departments
- Advanced organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule
- Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills to manage multiple levels of highly-complex information and responsibilities, to quickly assess problems, and to develop and implement timely and effective solutions
- Advanced interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with all levels of clinical and technical staff and representatives of external regulatory agencies and for mentoring lower-level QI staff
- Advanced ability to effectively convey complex clinical, technical, and educational information both verbally and in writing, and to produce high quality reports, documentation, and presentations.
