Job Summary | The Oberlin College Libraries invite applications for the position of Library Assistant III, Collection Manager / Evening Supervisor. This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) continuing Administrative Assistant position in the Conservatory Library. During the academic year, hours are Sun-Thurs 2:30 – 11:00 pm. Hours will vary over academic breaks. The position reports to the Conservatory Librarian for Public Services. |
Essential Job Functions | Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Coordinate all operations of stacks maintenance; hire, train, and supervise approximately 25 hours/week of stacks maintenance student workers; coordinate shelving, shelf reading, inventory, promote an organized, orderly environment; maintain current student training materials. • Coordinate all operations of ILL and OhioLINK; hire, train, and supervise approximately 10 hours/week of students; coordinate with the Terrell Interlibrary Loan Supervisor. • Page materials as necessary. • Implement searching for lost items and missing items, request replacements as needed. • Operate the library’s automated circulation system. • Assist in the creation and presentation of statistical reports for the Conservatory Library. • Plan shifting projects as determined by space issues as directed by the Conservatory Librarian. • Implement weeding projects as directed by the Conservatory Librarian. • Assist the Head of the Conservatory Library and Technical Services Librarian with collection maintenance projects. • Supervises student library assistants and the facility during evenings and on Sundays; offers circulation and back-up reference assistance to patrons during those times; operate the libraries’ automated circulation system. • Develop friendly, cooperative working relationships with library users and promote a positive library image in contacts with the public; answer routine questions, resolve problems, interpret and enforce library policies, and refer to other library staff as appropriate. • Assist in training Circulation student assistant staff. • Assist the Circulation Coordinator in the coordination and operation of Conservatory Library’s Reserve System, ERes (electronic reserve), including the creation and manipulation of database records and digital files. • Assist in resolving mechanical problems, including troubleshooting printer, copier, and scanner malfunctions. • Instruct staff and library users in the use of audio-visual equipment, photocopiers, and scanning as needed. • Create web-based training modules for stacks maintenance, retrievals, and patron requests using Blackboard and other software • Assist the Public Services Librarian with library outreach, library programming, and assume primary responsibility for social media initiatives that will support the Conservatory library’s activities and advocacy efforts. • Participate in library orientation for Conservatory summer programming outreach events (institutes, conferences, competitions, and workshops. • Participate in public services scheduling to provide recommended full-service coverage. |
