AmTrust Financial Services (AFS) is seeking an AVP - Title Controller to join its Finance team in Jersey City, NJ. Title is a business unit within the AFS Specialty Risk segment that continues to grow both organically and inorganically. The role is responsible for leading a transformative automation initiative, refining, and managing the financial close process while collaborating with the business on several key initiatives. The role will oversee a title insurance company and two agencies which consist of several subsidiaries.The role is highly visible, responsible for external and internal corporate reporting, as well as directly participating in a number of global finance projects and initiatives.The position will work closely with corporate and agency accounting teams.
Responsibilities
Enhance and optimize the financial close process.
Manage financial close process to ensure results are complete, accurate, timely and in compliance with U.S. GAAP, U.S. statutory and IFRS accounting guidance (IFRS is only applicable for one insurance branch);
Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and related disclosures.
Analyze key data and performance metrics to provide thoughtful action plans in alignment with the company mission and execution of goals.
Lead, or participate as a member of, cross-functional teams for various corporate-level projects, including financial systems implementations, process improvement initiatives, and merger & acquisition finance integration and reporting.
Assess processes, systems, and resources for potential synergies with ongoing integration and automation initiatives.
Drive continuous improvement by reassessing day-to-day finance activities and data sources for potential enhancements.
Lead special project work such as establishing automated integration between front-end systems and subledgers which may require critical and abstract thinking, as well as knowledge of title insurance accounting, data and IT systems, and performance of forensic accounting type tasks.
Provide guidance and coaching to the Title team.
Establish and review key strategic and operational priorities and develop them into a comprehensive plan.
Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
Maintain effective and collaborative communication with front office, and financial planning and analysis team.
Provide management with ad hoc analysis or schedules.
Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external auditors.
Qualifications
Technical & Other Skills:
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles, knowledge of IFRS preferred
knowledge of real estate settlement statements and escrow account reconciliations required
Ability to assess and understand systems and processes, and recommend/implement improvements
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines
Must be flexible and have demonstrated skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
Strong initiative, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, plus an orientation toward continuous improvement are required
Intermediate or higher excel skills
Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning Software (Oracle) and Hyperion (HFM) preferred
Experience:
7+ years of industry experience (experience in title insurance strongly preferred)
Must have prior controllership, project, and people management experience
Experience/knowledge of financial close processes
“Big 4” experience preferred
CPA preferred
The salary range for this role is $165K - $195K per year. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
