Position Description
Part-time Recreation Intern / Temporary General Summary:
As directed by the Recreation Manager, Recreation Aides will implement outdoor education and recreational activities and events within Precinct 2 parks and community centers and Texas State Parks destinations. They will indicate to participants what will be accomplished during each outdoor recreational session, activity or event. This position will engage all age groups including youth, senior citizens, veterans and other family members. Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in all aspects of outdoor recreation programming that works with youth, senior citizens, veterans and families.
Coordinate, facilitate and monitor recreational activities/field trips at parks, playgrounds, community centers, and related facilities.
Participate in field trips to designated Texas State Parks.
Provide recreational instruction to event participants (angler education, outdoor camping, archery, etc.)
Assist with daily paperwork, data collection, end of month reports, closeout to include inventory, and grant report paperwork.
Assist with taking proper care of equipment, supplies and facilities.
Provide instruction or assist with a wide range of programming and free play for community youth.
May resolve problems and counsel participants and assist with parks and center preparation for programs and activities and assist with parks & facility cleaning, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution
Experience:
Three (3) months of related experience in outdoor recreation or outdoor education
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work on multiple projects and meet time sensitive deadlines.
Ability to show a systemic effort to obtain needed data or feedback.
Strong written and oral communication skills and time management skills.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This job operates in a both a clerical, office setting and outdoors in a variety of environmental and weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Noise level in the work environment is usually average.
Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted; carrying materials / supplies; climbing, reaching and bending. Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
