Yale University’s Sexual Harassment and Assault Response & Education (SHARE) Center is available to all members of the Yale community (undergraduate students, graduate/professional students as well as staff and faculty members and their dependents/spouses) who are dealing with sexual misconduct of any kind, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, intimate partner violence, and more. We assist individuals who are dealing with current/recent and past experiences, and offer support to those who may experience something indirectly such as supporting friends, family or loved ones or witnessing something of concern.
SHARE provides crisis support, advocacy, referrals for on-going care, and other resources to every member of the Yale community. We also offer on-going therapy and support services for students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional) focused on processing issues related to sexual misconduct. We offer a variety of groups, including Trauma-Informed Yoga for Survivors and a general survivor support group.
Resources are provided for individuals who are exploring concerns related to their own behaviors and/or are mandated for training after being found responsible for a sexual misconduct policy violation. These services are provided through the Conduct Awareness Training Program (https://sharecenter.yale.edu/services/conduct-awareness-program), that provides support and educational information to help individuals self-reflect on their sexual behaviors and broader relationship dynamics to promote empathy, accountability, and greater recognition of the harm they may have caused.
SHARE will broaden its scope to include prevention and education initiatives aimed at promoting safe and respectful interactions among Yale community members. It will also cover decision-making regarding sexual behavior, dating, and relationships.
Respondent Support: Reporting to the Director of SHARE, the Respondent Support portion of this position will provide support, assistance, and Conduct Awareness training around sexual behavior and/or broader relationship patterns and dynamics to members of the Yale community (students, faculty, and staff) who: (1) Are concerned about their own behavior related to sexuality, dating, and/or relationships; (2) Have been accused of violating the University’s sexual misconduct policies: (3) Have been found responsible for violations of the University’s sexual misconduct policies.
They will also assist with the coordination of services and referrals to both campus and community-based resources as needed. They will be available for scheduled appointments Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm with the possibility for 1 to 2 remote work days per week. This individual will also support respondents by assessing the needs of this population and developing innovative and creative strategies to meet those needs.
Prevention Education Specialist: The Prevention and Education Specialist portion of this position will involve working collaboratively with SHARE team members and other Yale departments on developing and disseminating new initiatives promoting safe and respectful interactions among Yale community members. This programming will also cover decision-making regarding sexual behavior, dating, and relationships.
Programming will focus on graduate/professional students and staff/faculty populations but will also collaborate and coordinate with the Office of Gender and Campus Culture (OGCC) which provides this programming to undergraduates. This individual will work collaboratively with SHARE leadership and the other partner offices at Yale to conduct research and a needs assessment around themes, topics, and programming approaches that are a best fit for this campus population. There may also be an opportunity for this individual to participate in and contribute to the growing restorative and transformative justice initiatives happening on campus.
Ability to utilize sound professional judgment and ethical practice. 1. Provides Conduct Awareness (behavior awareness) training for individuals concerned about their own behavior and for those who have been accused of or found responsible for a sexual misconduct policy violation. 2. Provides one-on-one support to these individuals to process their experiences and to consider possible courses of action. Coordinates care with Yale Mental Health and Counseling and/or other campus or community-based providers, as appropriate. 3. Provides ongoing support to individuals going through both formal and informal University complaint processes, as well as providing guidance and support around re-entry to campus following a disciplinary separation from the University. 4. Maintains working knowledge of emerging evidence-based/-informed interventions for this population by keeping up to date with new literature in the field as well as similar efforts on other campuses. 5. Collaborates with SHARE leadership and other Yale departments to create and execute new prevention and education initiatives related to helping community members engage in safe and respectful interactions in general as well as in decision making related to sexual behavior, dating, and relationships. 6. Maintains close communication and working relationships with partner offices at Yale to collaboratively develop a comprehensive, coordinated approach to prevention education programming on campus, including serving on committees and participating in working groups. Advanced degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health/Counseling, Education/Higher Education Administration, Public Health or related academic or professional field. Five years of professional experience, including in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
