BASIC POSITION INFORMATION
Under the supervision of the Site Administration and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides individualized behavioral support strategies and techniques; assists instructional personnel in reinforcing behavior expectations to individual or small groups of students in an assigned classroom or other learning environment; collects and maintains data on student behavior; performs a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for certificated instructional personnel; attends and participates in student progress meetings.

The District currently needs substitutes for the 2024/2025 school year. The eligibility list being established will be used to hire substitutes and fill future vacancies.
The examination process consists of supplemental questions within the application, a written job-related examination, and a qualifications appraisal interview.
The posted salary is 100% for an eight (8) hour position. The positions range from 3.5 to 5.75 hours per day (43.75% - 71.88% FTE).
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The classification specification does not describe all duties performed by the incumbent in the class. This summary provides examples of typical tasks performed in this classification.
Implement positive behavior intervention strategies for students; implement and model identified behavioral techniques including positive behavior interventions and reinforcement strategies as identified by the teacher.
Observe and assist in emergency situations involving aggressive or uncontrolled behavior of identified students in accordance with approved Crisis Preventative Intervention (CPI) procedures as trained.
Assists students with performing and developing proper social behavior,
Attend periodic and special training and in-services related to behavior interventions and the instructional programs as relevant.
Participate as a member of a team supporting students' progress and behavior intervention plans.
Tutors individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher; monitors and oversees student drills, practices, and assignments in various subjects; assists with the implementation of lesson plans.
Redirects student behavior according to established techniques and procedures; provides positive behavior interventions.
Other Duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Techniques used in controlling and motivating students.
Behavior intervention modifications, techniques, strategies, plans, procedures and goals.
First Aid and CPR procedures.
Basic record-keeping techniques.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Problems and concerns of students with emotional disorders, learning disabilities, and behavior disorders.
ABILITY TO:
Assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
Use appropriate student behavior management strategies. Learn teacher-developed behavioral strategies that increase student independence, motivation, and self-esteem.
Work with students in Special Education that may become combative.
Effectively assist teachers in responding to students' emergencies.
Run after and gently, but firmly, restrain students attempting to leave the classroom or school grounds.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Work independently with little direction as needed.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Apply basic first aid techniques and practices.
Maintain confidentiality about all personal information, assessment results, and other records concerning students and their families.
Use patience and tact in working with students.
Perform simple and repetitive tasks.
Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years experience working with children with special needs.

Classroom and school site environment
Potential for employees in this position to work with students who may demonstrate verbal and aggressive behaviors (scratching, hitting, biting, etc.) due to their specific disabilities.
Potential exposure or contact with bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens, and infectious diseases.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone. Seeing to read a variety of materials.
Physical agility to lift 25 pounds to shoulder height and 40 pounds to waist height; reaching overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy equipment and students weighing up to 40 pounds.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate educational training equipment.
Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
Sitting for extended periods of time.
