Develops an action plan and coordinates new employee orientation in conjunction with the Nursing Education department. Develops mechanisms for documentation of initial competencies achieved and sets individualized time frames for accomplishment. Provides orientation goals and strategies to orientee and preceptor. Acts as a resource in providing theory and supervised practice during training and orientation of all new staff. Utilizes adult learning theories to implement action plan strategies. Participates in the assessment of permanent and temporary employees. Develops and facilitates clinical orientation of all new hires with the development of goals and resolution of performance problems with collaboration from service line coordinators when applicable. Mentors and monitors progress of new employees in theory and supervised practice in response to selected development needs.
Principal Accountabilities: 1. Ensures all on-the-job training is consistent with guidelines established 2. Ensures that site trainers/preceptors have the knowledge, tools, and attitude to effectively train staff 3. Acts as both a formal and informal consultant, assisting with the integration of new learning into nursing practice and serving as a resource by assisting nurses in identifying problems, identifying available internal and external educational resources, and selecting educational options 4. Works with the Operations team in identifying changes that should be made in the nursing practice and facilitating the initiation of, adoption of, and adaption to change. Strives for excellence in patient care by self-monitoring and, as necessary, to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient. Identifies existing and potential problems and takes effective actions. 5. Develops and maintains an awareness of needed improvements in patient care, procedures, equipment and supplies and makes recommendations. 6. Other relevant duties as assigned.
