Overview
The Emergency Services Operations Specialist provides operational and logistical support in all divisional preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts, particularly through street outreach programming. Working in tandem with the Recovery Specialist, responds to the needs of individuals in crisis on the street providing for immediate felt needs and sharing informed referrals for further assistance. Provides support to the Logistics & Preparedness Coordinator in management of all departmental assets and acquisition, inventory, and disposition of all Emergency Services equipment and supplies. The position is supervised by the Deputy Director.
Responsibilities
Assist with all program and departmental operations and logistics including vehicle maintenance, driving, inventory management, supply line development, etc.
Maintain all relevant instructor certifications to include, but not limited to, first aid, CPR, AED, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), signs of human trafficking, opioid overdose reversal, etc.
Serve as a certified trainer in relevant courses
Partner with the Recovery Specialist to develop trusted relationships with people experiencing homelessness working alongside them toward their stability
Develop regular routing plan for outreach programming utilizing multiple internal/external inputs
Provide key logistical support to Corps-based community ministries including the identification, sourcing, and delivery of needed supplies and equipment
Provide support to existing/developing Corps-based outreach programming, as needed
Distribute Naloxone to high-risk areas both on the street and with existing service partners
Attend seminars, conferences, training, and workshops as requested.
With approval, deploy to national/international disasters to support Salvation Army response/recovery efforts
Qualifications
College degree in relevant field or 1-2 years’ experience
Experience in emergency management, humanitarian assistance, and/or other related fields
Experience with inventory/fleet management and related tracking systems
Certification in training and dispensing Naloxone or progress toward certification
Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills
Developed and appropriate cultural and religious sensitivities
Ability to handle continuous involvement in a high-stress emergency setting
Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive large vehicles in a dense urban environment
Familiarity and training in working with those experiencing homelessness, dealing with substance misuse, people being trafficked, and other marginalized populations
Bi/multi-lingual, preferred
General knowledge of The Salvation Army, preferred
