Position Overview
The Lowboy Driver will be responsible for safe delivery of construction and mining equipment to various locations within the Southern Division. The position will also require the operation of various pieces of equipment for loading and unloading purposes. This is a union position and requires that the selected candidate be a part of or join The International Union of Operating Engineers within 60 days.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
The criteria for evaluation in this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintains awareness of OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) and/ or MSHA (Mining Safety & Health Administration) regulations.
- Works as a team member with other employees within the facility to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
- Safely load, secure, deliver, and unload equipment per Shelly Safety standards.
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections, maintain DOT Log Book, and complete required paperwork.
- Assist with equipment maintenance as needed.
- Comply with Federal and State of Ohio rules and regulations as well as posted traffic signage.
- Equipment moves will be scheduled according to work needs. This may require multiple shift (day or night), weekend, and holiday work.
- Performs any other miscellaneous duties as requested by the Plant Manager/ Superintendent/ Foreperson.
Other Requirements:
- Shall hold and maintain an active Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazardous Endorsements.
- This is a union position and requires that the selected candidate be a part of, or join, The International Union of Operating Engineers within 60 days.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Work may require occasional travel out-of division and out-of state.
- Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
- Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Hard Hat, Hearing Protection, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Seatbelt.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate sufficiently to be able to convey and exchange ideas and to give and to receive detailed verbal instructions.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or variables.
