General purpose: The Facilities Assistant is responsible for helping Facilities technicians in completing daily work orders, and preventative maintenance tasks.

Summary of Essential Functions

• Works safely with Facilities technicians in executing work orders

• Serve as a labor resource for event support and snow/ice removal (weekends included)

• Work independently on the completion of annual apartment PMs during the summer months

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist Facilities technicians

• Event support

• Snow and ice removal

• Use of hand tools

• Troubleshooting and problem-solving

• Communicate effectively

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Knowledge of: campus buildings, Bolton Hill neighborhood, MICA work order system, work order process, surface knowledge building trades a plus

• Skills: use of hand tools (screwdriver, tape measure, etc.) and painting equipment (brushes, rollers, etc.).  Safe use of ladders, hand trucks, and furniture dollies.

• Ability to: Observe, troubleshoot, problem solve, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively.

Minimum qualifications:

• Education: currently enrolled as a student in an undergrad program at MICA

Preferred Qualifications:

• Some knowledge of/experience in any of the building trades is preferred

• Unusual Circumstances related to the position (ie. essential personnel, require travel, serve in an “on-call” capacity, work evenings and/or weekends, blackout periods, etc.)

• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to (amt) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position).  Tasks prohibited: working on building rooftops, HVAC or electrical trouble shooting, lifting over 50 lbs., use of power tools with blades, use of ladder or scaffolding exceeding 6 ft. in height, and use of  mechanical lifts. 

• Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually (minimal, moderate, or high).  While performing this job the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time and minimum to moderate noise.

•  Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
