Summary: The Underwriting Manager, in addition to Underwriting loan requests, will be responsible for the management of a team of Senior Underwriters that will evaluate the credit worthiness of clients, determine their ability to repay loans and lines of credit including those used to purchase real estate, consolidate debt and/or provide working capital for businesses, assist closing approved loans and gathering information from the customers to perform annual reviews. The Underwriting Manager will be experienced in the underwriting and processing of syndicated/participation loan requests, with a focus on credits in the C&I/Middle Market area.
Salary commensurate with experience, ranging from $155,000 to $175,000 annually. The exact compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, education, training, licensure and certifications, and location.

Responsibilities:
Manage a team of Senior Underwriters; facilitating in the origination of syndicated/participated loan requests and assisting in the preparation of credit approval memorandums, when necessary, based on workflow demands. Ensure process is efficient and responsive to requests while ensuring the safety and soundness Dime’s loan portfolio. Underwriting analysis will be prepared for new and existing credit proposals, including owner-occupied commercial real estate, business acquisition facilities, business term loans, lines of credit, standby letters of credit and loan participations/syndications.
Review Letters of Interest (LOI) issued by the Underwriting Team for accuracy, proper loan and pricing structure and adherence to Lending Policy.
Mentor and assist in development of the Underwriters assigned to the team. Prepare annual performance reviews.
Review Credit Approval Requests (CAR) to ensure Dime underwriting standards are met and that loans adhere to Dime credit policy; work with lenders and underwriters where necessary to ensure loan is properly structured and provides appropriate support for level of credit risk taken, including identifying applicable loan covenants and closing conditions.
Oversee and participate (as necessary) in preparation of requests for loan modifications, extensions, and proposals to renew maturing loans and lines of credit (LOC's) and oversee conducting annual reviews of existing portfolio.
Work with Underwriting Team to assess Dime’s collateral coverage by creating borrowing base advance formulas and reviewing accounts receivable aging reports and inventory schedules.
Ensure that Credit Approval Requests properly identify policy exceptions and incorporate suitable mitigants into the credit evaluations.
Proactively communicate with loan officers, brokers, agent/lead banks and clients during underwriting and loan review process including participating in client meetings and conference calls.
Ability to identify and communicate when a credit recommendation should not be made.
When necessary, assist in collecting financial information from clients for new loan requests and annual reviews.
Provide analytical support for Senior Management as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 10 years’ commercial banking / underwriting / lending experience in middle market in Long Island and/or New York City; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong understanding of loan risk factors.
Demonstrated knowledge of credit and financial analysis techniques.
Demonstrated ability to independently gather, consolidate, analyze, and summarize data and make recommendations for all levels of commercial credit relationships.
Good interpersonal skills working with loan officers, credit officers, clients, and executive management.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Knowledge of Sageworks/Abrigo End-to-End software system preferred.
Effective time management, written and oral communication skills.
