Description: Accountant

Job Summary:

• Proficient in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for the State of New Jersey Department of Education.
• Knowledge and application of New Jersey State purchasing laws regarding Purchasing, Bid, and Quotation thresholds, ensuring that the district is in compliance.
• Processing of requisitions, quotations, bids, and orders in conformance with New Jersey Statutes, DOE regulations, and Board of Education policies.
• Assists with developing, reviewing, recommending changes, and/or revising the Board of Education’s Purchasing Policy when needed, and assists in the preparation of periodic reports relating to purchasing functions for the Business Administrator/Board Secretary.
• Budget, data analysis, and preparation.
• Communicates with schools regarding all aspects of purchasing and Student Activity Accounts. Business Office liaison with suppliers; forwards information as needed. Works effectively and courteously with all.
• Processes and maintains meal application records, including entering meal application data into the software system involving manual and digital applications.
• In charge of the lunch program; submits Food Services’ related reports.
• Verifies parent or guardian salary information as stated on meal application and conducts meal application verification in accordance with USDA regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Works cooperatively with colleagues to support the completion of large or time-sensitive projects or emergencies in the Business Office.
• Any other responsibilities as assigned.

• CPA or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related area preferred;
• Proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and district accounting software;
• Strong work ethic while handling assignments on a team or independently; Demonstrated organizational and data-management skills;
• Ability to problem-solve, delegate and manage a fast-paced office environment;
• Proficiency in Spanish (verbal and written) preferred;
• Previous work experience in a school or district office preferred.

Working Conditions: Central Office, Board of Education Building

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
