Position Summary:
The primary objective of the pharmacy technician is to assist the pharmacist in performing the prescription medication dispensing duties, under the supervision of a pharmacist, according to professional standards and state and federal legal requirements. The pharmacy technician will be trained to perform all of the technical duties required in a pharmacy to allow the pharmacist to participate in professional patient interaction and other duties. The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician will perform prior authorizations, timely refilling and shipping of medications, return to stock, call-backs, and provide excellent customer service for all patients in accordance with laws and regulations set forth by regulatory entities.
The pharmacy technician will prepare, package, document, and label drug products under the direct technical supervision of the Pharmacist. He or she will perform all required data entry and filing associated with the drug procurement and dispensing and perform functions related to drug purchasing and inventory control procedures. The technician will participate in the Pharmacy Department Performance Improvement projects/programs and collect data for workload measurements as directed.
The pharmacy technician is a public-facing member of the pharmacy team, and will directly interact with patients, nurses, and other health care providers. Salary Range:
Hourly Rate Minimum $29.47 Midpoint $33.06 Maximum $36.65
Required Qualifications:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
California Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration License or Pharmacy Intern Registration Certificate
Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful completion of job duties
Previous experience in a retail pharmacy setting, performance of prior authorizations, prescription processing, processing and packaging, and knowledge of patient insurance and third-party payers.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
Must be available to work weekends and evening hours
Minimum one year full-time relevant experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail pharmacy setting
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) license
Ability to operate EPIC Willow Ambulatory (WAM) computer system to process and verify prescriptions
