Overview:

Independently leads multi-disciplinary teams through large-scale complex transformational change initiatives, or strategically important short-term engagements for senior and executive management that deliver business outcomes.   This function serves as independent 3rd party advising and supporting internal stakeholders on transformation delivery and execution. In-depth expertise in strategy and innovation methodologies for enterprise and industry Transformation Delivery including Program/Project Management, problem statement and Scope Definition, Process Re-engineering, Organizational Change Management, Performance Measurement, and Customer Experience. This function serves as independent 3rd party advising and supporting internal stakeholders on transformation delivery and execution. 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Independently leads numerous multi-disciplinary teams through large-scale complex transformational change initiatives, or strategically important short-term engagements for executive management that deliver business outcomes.

• Responsible for the directly managing and driving multiple teams in the implementation of numerous governance frameworks aimed at achieving alignment across the bank and its strategy.

• Provide transparency to senior leadership of progress of initiatives.

• Develop and tailor communications content and artifacts used across various levels in the organization on numerous highly complex business initiatives with high attention to detail and quality.

• Delivers strategic advice and solutions to C-level executives on how to obtain value from major investments and transformations.

• Ensure follow up on all critical items and drives accountability through documentation

• Learn and support understanding of the organization by building credibility with teams, leveraging business acumen and curiosity.

• Proactively leverages and encourages others on use of multiple Transformation Delivery Tools to ensure all action items, risks, decisions, and issues are identified, captured and escalated. 

• Proactively drives accountability across the organization focused on ensuring risk management, execution certainty, strategic alignment to achieve desired business outcomes

• Build relationships and participate in engagement management with senior stakeholders and encourage collaboration to support an environment of information sharing to effectively deliver outcomes; learn and support understanding of the organization by building credibility with teams, leveraging business acumen and curiosity.

• Develops and rely upon relationships across the organization to break down silos and stay connected to changes going on in the bank.

• Responsible for educating team members by leveraging deep institutional and banking knowledge of M&T's people, business processes/workflows, products, and technologies and leverages them to shape strategy and deliver desired outcomes.

• Has a comprehensive understanding of how the Bank operates, sets targets and coordinate their team’s efforts, including cultural dynamics.

• Lead work groups and individuals with diverse views to develop and provide strategic recommendations and encourage innovation.

• Provide execution certainty by setting pace and driving accountability working alongside senior leaders to drive decisions.

• Encourage the team to champion new transformation delivery tools and techniques and use them to support innovation, development and facilitate discussion.

• Encourage a culture of how to challenge status quo by consistently pushing for innovation and improvement and recommends solutions for adoption across the organization 

• Apply resourcing approaches and conducts prioritization efforts to ensure the best resources are allocated effectively.

• Support business in defining outcomes and key measures of success for transformation initiatives.

• Mentor and coach Enterprise Transformation Delivery team members and others within their team to take ownership of their development

• Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.

• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

Manage and lead a diverse team of 6-10 professionals

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years’ work experience, OR

• In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 9 years’ work experience

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Detail-oriented

• Proven intellectual curiosity

• Proven leadership skills

• Demonstrated cognitive bandwidth

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Minimum 2 years managerial experience

• Relevant financial services industry experience

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university; MBA or MS preferred 

• PMP, Agile, SAFe, Certified BA and/or ScrumMaster Certification

• Prior management consulting or comparable client service experience

Working Model/Location:

This is a hybrid position based out of our downtown Buffalo office. For applicants residing outside of the Buffalo market, remote (with travel) may be considered within the M&T Bank footprint which includes, but is not limited to:

• Baltimore, MD/Washington, D.C.

• New York, NY

• Philadelphia, PA

• Wilmington, DE

Anticipated Travel Requirements:

Employees in this position should be prepared to travel at least once per month. Travel may occur more often than this and is based upon the needs of the business and projects assigned. Employees residing outside of the Buffalo or Baltimore market are anticipated to travel more to those areas.
