Position Summary:
The Children’s Services Coordinator (CSC) is responsible for providing a safe and supportive educational environment for children within a homeless family program. CSCs are tasked with managing and evaluating the ACES (Achieving Career and Educational Success) Program (A program developed to complement formal education and rebuild confidence in our learners.) along with providing appropriate services/referrals for children and their families. Children’s Services Coordinators also assist in the daily operation of a family site.
Position Duties:
Intake and Assessment
Conduct interviews to assess individual needs of the family to identify special needs and areas of concern
Work closely with other staff to develop an intervention plan to subsequently link children and families to other community agencies, schools, or programs as needed
Administration & Site Management
Prepare and maintain case files, records, program statistics, reports and any other necessary documentation as needed
Attend case management meetings, supervision, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned
Participate in standard room/unit checks
Coordinate the staging and cleaning of vacant apartments
Maintain a spreadsheet of apartment maintenance and furniture needs
Submit requests to the appropriate departments (Operations, Facilities, etc.)
Additional duties may include: Food Bank pick-up and management of deliveries, supervising large and small donations
Program Implementation
Create an effective learning environment conducive to the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children
Implement and oversee the daily ACES children’s activities, field trips, and other events
Assist in the creation of support groups and workshops as needed to address age specific issues and concerns
Oversee ACES Summer Adventure Camp
Supervise the ACES Summer Adventure Camp Program Leads and CSC Interns
Maintain an inventory of instructional, art, and play materials, as needed
Community Relations
Develop and maintain positive relationships with service providers, therapists, volunteers, community partners etc. to maximize resources for children and their families
Liaise with local schools to track attendance and progress of students in order to provide any special assistance as needed; facilitate enrollment of children in local schools
Assist families in obtaining childcare within the community
Assist in recruiting, training and supervising children’s program volunteers
Assist in educating the community about homelessness and the needs of homeless children
Assist in scheduling workshops, training, etc., for parents and children on relevant topics
Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in psychology/social services or similar required, with an emphasis on child development or child psychology strongly preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to collaborate with other agencies
Conflict resolution, group facilitation, and excellent communication skills essential
Experience working with children and parents, preferably at-risk, low-income families highly valued
Experience with the homeless population, mental health, substance abuse, and other disabilities strongly preferred
Understanding of the issues faced by disenfranchised populations. Knowledge of area resources for referral preferred
An understanding of ideas and practices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion; and a commitment to ongoing professional development in this area.
Bi-lingual Spanish language capabilities preferred
Strong work ethic; comfortable working independently
Automobile and valid driver’s license preferred
